Tree ID help

Need some help identifying this tree I started milling - a huge log at 38" diameter. Tree was in Shelby, NC and the log sat on the ground for 3+ years and it's got little decay, so good rot resistance. Some kind of cedar perhaps?

My first thought is cherry.

The color and rot streak looks like sassafras .  But then there is catalpa .

My guess would be Red Elm.
