I have a project on the go and needed pegs. So  took some very straight grain birch. Split it and then put it on the table saw and cut it ito 1x1 inch sq. Then put my saw on a 45 deg. Moved the fence to 11/16 and made a octagon. Tried it on a 1 inch hole. Worked just fine. Sander worked to sharpin them.

Those look great. I was hoping to make my own for my current frame but lack of time and hardwood forced me to purchase the pegs. Northcott wood turning's prices are very reasonable.

These are 16 inch long as that was what i had cut the firewood to. I can see right away if i got a straight split then split it again so it will fit the table saw
