I have one of those adapters, I got it at NAPA. Just snaps on the end of your gun and then you snap it onto the fitting. Works well for drag links and balljoints.Stands about 1.5 inches high so I doubt you could get it into a 1" space.

What you need is an adapter they use for Chrysler FWD cars. It was a cut out on a straight piece of tube and you just slide it right over the zerk from the side. The adapter is only about 1/2 an inch tall. Only draw back is on a clogged up zerk you can not get enough pressue through it to open it up.

The tip I bought has a slot in the side where it fits over the fitting.
It has a nylon surface that slides over the top of the fitting but the one I bought didn't fit so I had to grind out the nylon, fabricate a new surface with plastic and even then the only way it would work is with a rigid tube from the gun.
What made matters worse is I had to stand on my head, hold a flashlight and grease the fitting all at the same time.

Kevin, how far are you from the Falls?  The wife and I used to spend a weekend there every year at the end of the school year. Missed the last couple though. :-[
