Fresh wild blackberries! Yummy
Blackberries are still a ways off for us. Don't even have strawberries yet. Few more weeks to go. I had a real nice spot for blackberries, almost as big as you have. Than they rented the field out and the guy ran the fence down by the blackberries. :o
We've had strawberries fir a month now, but just getting going heavier. Have both June and ever.
The tame blackberries were just planted this spring in their beds. I saw some flowering, but won't be much this year.
Looks neat! I'm ready to visit!
Looks fun 👍👍

Looks like life is good in Oklahoma! Keep posting.
Living good and eating good that's awesome 👍
Oklahoma is a great state! My grandfather grew up near Stillwater and I still have a bunch of Rothhammer relatives in that area.
Do you pull the membrane on the ribs?
@Raider Bill (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=4445) Those ribs pictured were brought by a friend. They came over to swim. All my wife did was season them. I smoked for 2 hours on high smoke, then applied 1 cup of apple juice, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and about 4 TBSP of butter. Then wrapped them up in tinfoil for another hour at 325
Our ribs we raised I can't remember if they come with it on or not from the butcher, but I've never seen my wife remove any, nor has she said anything.
@scsmith42 (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=3296) We're transplants. I grew up in the frozen tundra. They can keep that stuff...... It's been good to us overall.
Looks awesome!

Thanks,
I like to ask about the membrane. I always do. Some never and some look at me weird when I ask.
Couple weekends ago we were in the Florida panhandle eating ribs I asked the cook who said he splices the membrane between the bones so it pulls back.
Anyway, Great place you have there!

One of my employees grew up outside of Ketchikan, AK. His first winter here I don't think that I ever saw him put on a jacket! LOL
Lookin great!
Best and I mean the best chicken I've ever ate. 95 mins high smoke till the probe reached 168°. Then seared the thighs on the gas grate sear for a couple of minutes to set the skin. Turned the smoker to direct grill and to 350° for about 5 minutes for the drums. They don't sear well, as they are too round.
Wife marinated them in a buttermilk marinade. Then she patted them dry and applied her dry rub. WoW. I mean WoW.

Milking cows eh.. You sir are a glutton for punishment. ;) Glad she was well mannered, milking cows is work no two ways about it, good luck with that project. Cow fresh homemade cream is pretty tough to beat.
It's good. Grew up milkin them 3x and even 4x. Had one of the top producing herds (4th) in the country back in the day and then worked with some of the largest dairies in the country. One's a breeze and even kinda fun. Great experience for the kiddoes. Wife is looking forward to the fresh cream. Funny thing is she won't drink milk though. She says it's too white..... ???
Going to build a little milk barn sometime this summer or at least planning on it. Also they can go in there during storms and really cold weather.
Nice pictures 👍
You know it's an addiction sorta like sawmilling....
I have milked a cow in my earlier days... didn't have no contraption like that. We put them in a stall, gave them a little feed and used our hands and a bucket. Her calf got the other side. That's the way poor dirt farmers in Mississippi did it. I don't miss it. Can buy milk at Aldes in Corinth for $1.19 a gallon. Banjo
@Nebraska (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=45256) truth be told I had paid down on a woodmizer back in 87 or 88. Before I wrote the rest I called around to get pricing and talked to some sawers. I never wrote the rest. Most of them were barely getting by. I had visions of not getting rich, but having a decent life with a log cabin out on some land. That wouldn't have cut it. The area i was from had a lot of Amish, so that sized wood market was way under priced. That ofcourse also affected the other markets. Our area wasn't big into any timber framing back then. Here where I'm at now, there's not enough wood locally, have to truck it in. The market is here though, lots off high end houses. Wood really like it though. Love the smell of sawing wood. But then there's my health issues. Don't think I could really do it.
@Banjo picker (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=8028) Sure enough can, but that's factory farmed. Not grass fed milk. Grass fed is much more healthier. I milked a lot of milk by hand also, but that was sick cows.
Chillin n relaxing watching the night sky change over the water, listening to the frogs while drinking some cold ones....... thumbs-up

I'm getting the idea that you like beer.
@Weekend_Sawyer (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=233) One ice and I mean ice cold one, yes. It cuts a dry throat pretty good and actually helps as a pain reliever, so it's medicinal...... ;D
We used to raise bucket calves. My daughter made pets of them. One of the heifers I bought turned out to be sterile, and was big and fat, so I had it butchered. My daughter would not eat it. She said that is Daisy!
Hey Sledge: Get you a 6 pack of Vodoo Ranger. It will make you throw that ultra over the fence. It's an Indian Pale Ale. IPA for short. Banjo
or try some hot sauce and or bloody Mary mix. or try Daaang. another IPA. We brew Pliney the Elder that is a double IPA. 89 on the hops bitterness scale (100 max). won many awards, can barely find it on tap. even in the big cities they only get one keg, and you have to get there before it spits. Sedge, you are too young for Pliney.

@Banjo picker (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=8028) Thing is i don't really like beer.... Least wise the bitter taste of beer. My pa always said my european ancestors wood rollover in their graves and hang their heads in shame in how i like my beer and the ice cold temp. I have a really good friend who immigrated from germany (old Austria) on an investors visa. He shakes his head when he's over and I pull my beer from a freezer with ice on the bottle, but yet the beer isn't yet frozen. I've told him what my pa used to say and he'll smile and say "ya, your pa is right'..... :D

@Sedgehammer (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=43840) tell me about your outdoor projector screen and projector, in the picture? My daughter has one and I built a frame to hang her screen on its about 5x8 but I'd entertain the thought of a little bigger scale and better sound.
@Nebraska (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=45256) That was at a local, well I say local, 30 miles away local drive in. We wanna get one though. Prolly not until we build the cabana though.
Oh shoot, I didn't look closely enough. I thought maybe you had one out there by that pond. Our local drive in movie theater is about 70 miles away in Neligh, NE. Might be the last one in the state.
My neighbor took 4 king size white sheets and sewed them together in a square then made a frame out of PVC pipe. Hung it from a tree branch and tethered to the ground.
Watched a super bowl on it. In one shot Peyton Mannings head was 8 ft tall.
He had a projector hooked up to his laptop and a couple good sized speakers.
Seemed to work pretty good.
The thing about IPA's is that there are so many different ones to try.
Disney and some Vegas attractions project onto a thin layer of water jetted up in the air under high pressure. it can wave in the breeze a bit if windy.

Have only 11 to do today. Almost a perfect day. Overcast. A little breezy. 77°. Won't get 45 day broilers again. Too finicky. Will look at some slower broilers that forage that we can buy chicks or a cornish hen x jersey rooster crosses or cornish hen x brahma rooster cross that we'll breed, hatch and raise ourselves.
Nice pictures. Very nice operation. You have everything nice and clean as a whistle on that table👍👍👍

At least by doing that together your kids get an understanding of what everything takes. Where it comes from and how its done. No different than cleaning fish or butchering deer. Lots of learning there.
Yup. Thanks. Some life lessons that most kids don't get anymore.
I can smell the scald from here.
red rangers are slow growing meat bird. Don't get as heavy, forgot the weight 6 pounds.
I'll get a picture of my butchering table. I put a traffic cone with the end cut out on one end... put the bird in head first.... head comes out the hole. Put a bucket under it, and do the deed. No flopping around. I really don't care for the process, but I can do it. Banjo

Yeah kinda makes me want pizza till the smell is out of my system :D.
I like to use a killing cone too, I make them out of sheet metal when a traffic cone is unavailable. With a cone one will be draining while I'm scalding the previous one. I usually work the rough end, kill, scald and pluck, then pass them off to the insides crew. I can fold my hand and stick it inside about twice before old friend arther says enough of that. If there are a bunch of us helping those outside the carcass jobs and inside is kind of a mental wall. That was the suggestion of one extension agent who watched us jumping around trying to help out and hopping in wherever in the process as we saw a need. Dividing those two groups of duties to hopefully keep what's outside from getting inside when you are processing a number of them.

Yeah, had them before. Too small. Have some jersey giants now. Slow growing, but big. My wife said she really liked the breast and thigh sizes of the broilers we did today (while I'm a breast man, I don't like white meat...... ;D). That's why we will try those slower growing broilers, yet they get pretty big or we'll do some crosses. I don't really mind them being slower. as we're not into it for feed conversion day rate. It's the quality of the meat from what they ate vs their rate of gain per day.
@Banjo picker (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=8028) I'd appreciate that
@Don P (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=17) I need to remember that. I still hurt pretty bad and my right arm/shoulder is still numb. Prolly not much sleep tonight.
Next time I think we'll have a bit bigger crew. My boy who just got married Thursday, his wife said she'd like to butcher chickens and they'll help next time. She is a farm girl, so that'll help. My mother in law always helps and usually my sister in law does to, but today she was studying for a dental school entrance exam. plus there was only 11.
We have some Dixie Rangers, I think they are called. They are really big birds! I haven't butchered any of them so I can't speak to how they turn out.

I think they are about the same. Seems each breeder has their own version of them. Good birds. Range really well. Lay a mess of eggs. Just not a very meaty meat bird. even our jersey's while big, aren't overly meaty. That's where the cornish game hens come in I think.
Seeing those chicken feet reminded me of my Dad. He liked them food2.

Looking good 👍
Are you opening a campground/other business or just a personal entrance?
@gspren (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=17800)
That's just to the back pasture.
There'll be another one at the road into our place, but wider. That'll have a metal gate with wood overlay. I'm undecided if I'll have bricked columns around the pipe though
I have the gas lights working now. I'll try and upload the YouTube link. They flicker really nice at night. Wife might need to do it though.
Just our place.
Have the 2 briskets in marinade for Saturday's Independence Day celebration. I'm about wiped out fir the day. All that bending and turning making the marinade in the man cave kitchen is hard to do anymore.... 🤢Took me almost 2 hours. 😬

That's an impressive gate to access the back pasture, the pond and surroundings are also impressive is why I thought maybe a business venture. If a campground I might have booked a site (next year). Keep up the good work.

Thanks! Wife said she thought the gating was a bit much for a pasture.... ;D This will prolly be my final stop except for our home overseas, so it needs to outlast me and hopefully past my wife (she's 16 younger), so prolly 40 years or so.
Have 2 sections of the string lighting up for this weekend.
Might need to double up on the string lights. Just barely bright enough.
They fade, blink or 1 can set up how ever many different colors to rotate to. 9 different ones i think.
Pictures appear brighter then they actually are.

I appreciate it! I've been lucky in many ways. Married really well, that's my biggest luck yet. She's the type that if I left for 2 months on a cattle drive back in 1850 and didn't come back in until 6 months later, the ranch woodn't have missed a beat and there'd be no complaints.
Plus I've been lucky to have guys they've been able to hire since I got hurt that have followed what i wanted.
I'm a mess. I did a little sod work this spring. Not much mind you, but it is still kicking my butt. Constant pain. At times ER level. I'm on my heaviest pain meds.

When I saw the first photo I thought you were putting a slab in your garden you could put your raised beds on, which raised some questions in my tiny mind. But then I saw the next photos which revealed to me the most unique system of making concrete I have ever seen. Not in my wildest mind could I think that would work, but work it did, and very well. I learned something. I may never be able to apply it, but I will sure keep it in mind. Pretty neat what you boys came up with.

Not by choice...... Wife said no concrete trucks unless it's pouring her footings for the barn. We did it for the pad for the gray feed shed you might see in some pictorials. Plus we have some crushed rock leftover that I don't want to keep moving around, so it's a way to use it up. Have a few more batches to do unfortunately.....

Well, since I can't work and she's making really good cabbage..... Plus she usually doesn't. She's just very adamant about getting the barn started, so we'll be that much closer to starting our house. She deserves it. She's been above and beyond. She's one of those that'd been one to ride the river with. So that's why.
There's some back story also. We bought the place fall 10. She asked for a new house. I got to build a shop and my man cave. Then I got to do the pond, but I got hurt once we started it, but we finished it mostly (2 zip lines, water slide, rope climbing still to do). I also got the rock walls for the garden and the garden with the promise that the house wood be next. Then I suggested we do the monitor barn first, then house and she agreed, so her telling me no cement trucks unless it's for the barn, I can't equate to her always getting her way exactly.......:o
So I'm glad to let her have her way on this one

I see it's almost a twofer. I'd have cut some pain meds to drink it all while cold. I could do that. It's actually a different type of pain reliever, but still helps, so it's good. Thanks fir the up heads.
Yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's project. More dirt is out. Rebar n crete tomorrow. You can see 2 access boxes. 1 to the pond with a 2" stainless shut off valve and a 3" check valve and we put another 2" stainless shut off valve for the future 2" line going out to the pasture for irrigating.

Just got the news. Doctor, doctor said I've got a bad case of... Oh, wait, no, that's not it. I have surgery next Wednesday. Left elbow nerve and left hand nerves. Left arm is mostly numb when not in use. Really bad at night. Hurts at times to the point of tears and makes me sweat. Middle two fingers totally numb. That is unless they lock back down. she said ICU is full. Even though this is an outpatient, with my meds and history, they need a place encase pooh hits the fan for me. Fun, fun till daddy took the, oh wait, that's not it either.....
Sounds like compression of the ulnar nerve. I lose feeling in three fingers on my left hand on occasion......similar to carpal tunnel just a different nerve involved. Mine is from compression in the elbow, but I can still work mine out so far. Good luck to you.
Wudman
Hope the elbow nerve will fix it!

I think that's it. They'll be doing both. Carpal & elbow. Thanks
Here's the mower me bride got for me to mow the pond dam. Works well. A lot of mower for a dam that takes 20 minutes to mow. (https://forestryforum.com/board/Smileys/default/grin.gif)
I ran out of gas, so wasn't able to finish. I'll try to take a few more tomorrow.

A very nice mower!!
Beautiful spot. How do you manage to keep the cottonmouths out of the lake?
Well that is a cool mower. I have some places in Va. I could use that on a hill side. Would save a bunch of weed eating. WV could use one to haul his spray unit on the side of hills in WVa!
@thecfarm (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=436) thanks! It sure works nice. Still trying to get use to the controls. I keep forgetting what does what...... :embarassed:
@stavebuyer (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=15189) haven't seen even 2. Keeping things cleaned up I think it key. Plus they don't live in the water, just near, so they need cover. Plus have dogs. Have seen some grass snakes and a few bull snakes. The old pond once had a non venomous water snake in it fir a few days. Cottonmouths don't swim under the water, do it's easy to tell, but either way, any snake on the water is a dead snake.
@samandothers (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=18664) thanks! Yeah, they use them on mountainsides to clear brush fir fire control. It only had like 50 hours on it when we got it. It was a demo unit.

Anyways, I need to stop the 320 mg of asprin 5 days before surgery. That'd be that mornings as the last one. I don't want to have this delayed any longer. Well, I could drive the truck below the dam and sit in the A/C with a bottle of Voodoo Ranger that Mr. Bill offered.......🤔
Plucked the mower from the dam. Looks like the float is sticking, gas filled the cylinders, stopped turning over and it won't start when they are cleaned. Guess i need to order a carb kit.
My homemade boom apparently is heavy enough, it lifted the mower to the point of lifting the bob off the ground in the rears.

You can do a lot with a boom pole like that. I set all the trusses for my mill shed with one using my backhoe and its 17 feet to the eaves. Done it by myself. Had a rope on each end of the truss....it just barely would clear the top plates I had attached to the spanalls..... pull one rope in let the other out. Kinda slow, but as they say poor people have poor ways. Tim
Like usual, it's 3 am. about 3 to 2.5 hours of laying down and the pain wakes me up....... Today's surgery day. Have to be at the hospital at 7:30. surgery is at 9:30. Can't hardly wait. right hand cannot fully close. Hurts like heck and then some.Fingers are are all swollen up also i just noticed. i will take a picture when my phone is finished updating. Good luck with the surgery, pain is not fun.
Good luck, I hope it works. My ulnar is detached in the right elbow and gets pithy now and then but usually behaves well enough, nothing like that swelling, you've got it bad, they are no fun.
I hope all goes well for you.

We're good. Mostly pain free. Swelling gone. Numbness only pinky finger. 2 incisions at wrist. 5" one on elbow. Doc said she buried the nerve under 2 muscles.
1 concerning thing is the pain I was in. She said that's not normal. She thinks something else is possibly wrong. Plus she said it's not normal to be in so much pain, but my blood pressure was barely elevated. I was sweating like a stuck pig. Guess we'll see what morning brings.
Right arm prolly next. It's numb as I type.

no, haven't really slept a wink. They musta gave me an opiate after I was in recovery. I know they gave me a pain pill. Can't sleep if I take them.
Yes, very agreed on the sleeping. This was only allowing me a coupler of hours a night. I suspect I'll be back to my 4 or 5 now, as that's all my back allows me.
Glad it went well , I hope that gets it 8)
We've been under the dump truck the past few days doing a new clutch and I got up this morning to numb pinkie and ring fingers on the right, that's the ulnar, which made me think of this. If you haven't had one and continue to have problems get a nerve study done. My neck has a pinch point on that nerve that does that as well, he called it a double crunch. Helping a neighbor with ceiling drywall this morning, that'll fix it :D.

Thanks! It's been a bit since I've been good and it can go instantly. Mine did May of 16 when i fell. The instant before that i could do all day long no matter what the do was. Today I am lucky to remember what the do was......
Anyways back to your clutch and your dump truck..... :D :D :D :D Oh sorry there. I won't add in there that I don't miss a day since my wife sold the last truck..... If I may inquire, what is your truck and I promise I won't laugh anymore.
I know they did a bunch of pin pricking me after the accident with electricity. Not so fun, but not so bad either. Just made me leak in many places.
Yes, sounds like your it also. I'll keep updating.
Oh you can :D. It's an '82 Ford LTL9000 with cat 3406 and 235k miles on the truck, I think that was the original clutch, which was actually fine, the throwout bearing let go. A buncha blue balls fell out when the clutch popped out and hit the ground and I didn't see any grease. Tranny's bolted back in, just a couple of days of putting the rest of it all back together again. Exhaust pipes pretty much fell apart as we removed them, got a good look at the turbo and steering box while wandering around it and looking, need to quit doing that :D.
The nerve doc said he was sending an electrical signal down the nerve and based on the time between point A and B he could tell if the nerve was impinged. He said he's had people fall asleep while he was doing it and others said it was worse than childbirth. He gave me the entire spectrum :D. With that full time, you have not been having fun. Keep us posted, I hope it gives you relief.
Oh that's a good truck. Really good motor. With that low mileage, tranny and rears should be like new. It's amazing how long stuff stays together until you touch it..... 🤣
Ford's were underrated. We had a sterling. Best truck we owned. I think I have a picture. I'll look.

Did carpal tunnel which did not help. Then a neck fusion, did some good. Then the ulnar nerve, not much difference. Finally had another fusion surgery. Most numbness has past. Still a small amount of pain at times but it's better. Never had swelling.
I think I waited too long and nerve damage was too far along to reverse it all. Hope your results are good. It takes months for nerves to recover. .

From my understanding the ulnar controls from right down the middle of the hand to the pinkie. I think nerves are the slowest body part to heal, I'm still holding out hope for one a doc nicked when I was in my 20's :D.
Quote3406E. 550 HP
Can you clue me in on what the letter designations are and mean. As far as I can tell from the motor plate and owners manual this is a straight 3406, no E or C or anything, maybe an early model? When looking for parts like the turbo I always see a letter designation. How interchangeable is stuff across those designations?
Straight 3406 is very old.. Today people would call it a 3406A.. 1970s. Then came the B & C models. Mechanical pump, very similar except the C had some minor updates. 3406E is fully electronic injection. Youll want to look at your serial number for the first 3 digits. 2WS, 1LW, 6NZ etc. Start googling those numbers for info.
Unless your turbo is really spanked, theyre very cheap and easy to rebuild. If the fins are all in good shape there is no need to balance. Youll have a rivet tag on the CHRA for part numbers to find a kit. Like $120 and basic hand tools.
A friend of mine had a 3408 extended hood with twin stick tranny. In a Pete

I think your right. Trouble is it feels pretty good, but I'm so medicated, I don't know when it's too much already.
Yeah, I think that nerve is what they call 'toast'..... :o
Mike is correct on the designations.
The 3406 is the best truck motor Cat ever made. The numbers just indicate progression.
It varies what can move around. There are many different 'marriages' that can be made. We had a really good mechanic that wood constantly do that. Just search the googles.

I know canned beer is almost a sin, but the 2 on the right were a donation to my cause. The one that @Raider Bill (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=4445) and some others were recommending was also only available in cans, so i know this won't be an honest test, but it will be depleted none the less.....

No way to know that until you've finished all three. Then you can start over in the correct order.
Update on arm. Arm feels good. Ring finger is stiff. Kinda sore. Little bit numb. Skin is all rough on the hand where it was swollen.
Sounds like healing is going good. The nerves take time to heal, like 6 months to year.
If you like Ultra, which I do drink it at times too, the Voo Doo Ranger will be quite a change! I do enjoy IPA's and the hoppy flavor.
nerve heals at a cm per month.

It may be, but beer for me anyways tastes better in a bottle. But i'll have one tonight I think of the 3, so we'll see.
Poured the outside apron today. Estimated 6.2 yards. I think we came pretty close on how much we mixed based on what's left....... thumbs-up

Thanks!
It's pretty easy really.
Lay down your rock
Half of your portland
Your sand
Rest of your portland
Mix well
Spread it out
Water it all over to just before the water runs off of the pile
Mix well
Repeat until you get the slump you want.
Kinda a nice pic of the entrance where we poured the crete. Those gas

Yeah, it's a different taste to be sure. I don't really care what the name is of the beer, just that I like it. So, if I find an IPA that I wood really like, yeah, I'm in. Bitter though just isn't a taste I like.
My wife scolded me though, she said with all my pain meds I shouldn't be drinking that, but since she said 'shouldn't' and she didn't say 'can't', I'll keep on trying different ones...... ;D
Actually it's in itself a type of pain reliever. I know the pain subsides some after a beer.
If you keep sipping it, a year or two from now you might like it. not that it is a goal or anything. kinda like coffee. I drink mine stronger after 50 years of acclimation. I think it is "more beer" or one of the brew supply stores. I will check. called more hoppy candy. it is where we get the kits for Pliny the Elder.
Pass :).

My son likes that dark beer. I'll stick to light. If you want to give it a different flavor, try a drip of lime juice in the beer.
If you like tomato beer, try the zing zang bloody Mary mix in your ultra. the last bit will get peppery. I took some to Jake's and the southern folks looked at me like I had grits on my face.

You had mentioned that before I think. I'll maybe try it, why not. I know besides tasting like tomato in a beer, any other comparisons 🤔
How much do you put with a 🍺 🤔
depends on if you like tomato beer. just spicier. more pepper than anything. maybe a 12 oz. beer filled to 16 ounces in a glass. adds some zing to micky ultra, but do not bother if you are not a tomato fan. cheers smiley_beertoast

What is the water volume size of your 'soaking tub'?

Here's me conversion. Can't remember if I've ever seen a dump trailer with a dove tail. It was a 7' tall sided 20' long dump trailer. Sides at the bottom were rotted out, so had to cut the bottom 8" out. I also added uprights in-between for hauling dirt and rock. *' C-channel on the top. New floor over the dove tail. AR 400 on the floor and sides. Will add a dump truck style tailgate/barn door combo at some point. Was a lot of push/pulling with the push/pull hydraulic 10 ton come along to get the sides straight. I built some heavy duty ramps, as our skid is about 11,000 lbs. Have built in storage also.

Yeah, this summer and fall. It wasn't a fast conversion to say the least.... :o

Looks like you have a pretty good trailer project going on 👍
I'm just catching up to this thread and man, you've got some beautiful stuff going on there at the homestead! I hope you are healing up well! I'd love to see pond building info, if you've got it. I've got a very small pond that I'm looking to slowly turn into a swimming hole so I'd like to see how yours went, it looks lovely, though I'm positive my budget is significantly less than yours...
I'm another on the IPA train, that Voodoo Ranger that you saved for last several months ago I found tastes way better from a can in a frosty mug, but I'm typically a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid fan, if I can find it, as my tasty premium beer, then Rolling Rock, thanks to my wife, for my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc... I did drink the crap out of a 6 pack of Goose Island IPA a few days ago.

Nice work, never have seen a dump beavertail.
Did you have to rebuild the pivot down lower on the mainframe?
Thanks!
Me neither. It was darn high before when loading the skid. Much better now.
Yup. Was damaged before from being too light duty. It's probably overkill, too a point, but when loading my 11k lb skid, all that weight is hanging off where I rebuilt the trailer and I cut the trailer dump bed main rails down well over 50%. I was concerned about all the torque that wood be exerted.

@Walnut Beast (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=49695) Thanks! I can't believe the power. It has a lift pump, so not sure if anything else has been done, but WooW.
I had a cheaper older one picked out, but she liked this one better. I liked it better also, but didn't want to part with those extra Benjamin's.
Slightly off topic but I went to plow the neighbors driveway a couple days ago and he came out and dumped a box of 20 New Belgium IPAs on me, just after I'd bought a six pack of Voodoo Ranger on my way home from work. Good stuff and it's always nice to run out of premium beers, then suddenly have 3 times more, without really doing anything.
Me thinks he's like me and didn't like it, so he off loaded on you....... ;D
He's really just not a big drinker and likes to pay me off with booze. I'm ok with that deal.
So far, my wages, with him, have amounted to a bottle of Angel's Envy bourbon and about 65 premium beers. I'll take it.
If you start getting beer packs that are missing one beer you will know. My cousin had a fire pit with a grate made for two 30 packs of natural light. I ordered 3 pits, and looked in the store, and a 30 pack is 18.99. so I asked could I just give him 40 bucks a piece. I was told yes, but he has not made them in 6 months of waiting. the 120 bucks for 3 is lighter, but less motivating apparently.
Yeah, the one short is a good way.
@doc henderson (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=41041) what are you waiting on? You have a picture?
@aigheadish (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=53516) the bourbon wood be nice
he worked at a smoker company and got all free and partly fabed materials. :) they were 3 foot across and came with a grate to use as a grill. for 40 bucks. cannot beat that except he has not got them done.
Ahh k. Hope you get them.

if it is gelled, I have got mine to start and run with the diesel 911.
To be honest I'm not sure it was, but I'm assuming. I got it to start and drove it the rest of the way to the yard. Parked it in the garage. Looks like the previous owner had a cheap no name brand filter on it. It had a part number on it, but I couldn't find any information on it.
I removed the old filter and the water separator from it. Changed o-rinngs. Greased them. Poured howes diesel treatment in new filter (good to do when changing fuel filter. It cleans the injectors really good), screwed it on and primed it. Started right off.
Well my assumption was wrong. I started it and idled it while I put the wheel well back on. Then backed it outside and idled it up to 1500 rpms. After 5 minutes it died again. I have 2 pre-filters on the lift pump. I'll replace them tomorrow. I'm thinking they're plugged and it's starving the engine. We'll see i guess........ :o :o
The aftermarket fuel lift pump not working. Don't know if it's pump related or plugged filter related. Tomorrow's job list...... say_what
if the filters were plugged with ice and such, may have blown a fuse. is it the FASS system?
@doc henderson (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=41041) Yes sir it is. i'll check fuses in the am. I looked up the cross reference for the 2 filters I have. I'll be calling o'reillys to see which ones they have. I'll replace them before I will replace the fuse if that's what it was.
Maybe a dumb question, that it sounds like I know the answer to, but can gelled diesel be ungelled? I've done pretty well to keep the backhoe with the treatment in it but occasionally I get some diesel from the neighbor and I don't trust that he treats it or would remember if he treated it. If I have gelled fuel does the treatment (I think I'm using Howe's also) ungell it?
Also, @Sedgehammer (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=43840) cleaning injectors... Is that from a larger concentration of the treatment in the filter? Would pouring more in with the fuel accomplish the same thing? I'm pretty sure the bottle says that more than the prescribed amount doesn't hurt things... I've also seen/heard that pouring some 2 cycle oil in with the fuel can help clean them too. I've done it a few times as a supposed remedy for blowing blue smoke, and it seems to help some.
Ahh, bourbon. I've turned into a semi-heavy bourbon drinker. My go to is currently Elijah Craig but I need to find some others.

There are no dumb questions. Hopefully everyone here is helpful enough to answer questions that people post. Sometimes people are building 100's of thousands dollars of a project and if they have a question, we can help maybe save a building from being built wrong or save people money by doings things in a better/different way.
To your question, yes gelled fuel can be un-gelled. It's all temperature related. Different heavy fuels gel at different temperatures. While #2 diesel (it's heavier) gels before #1, #2 gets better performance/mileage.
Yes, it's solid fuel treatment. Pouring more in. Well that's a dilution issue. Yes, more would, but if you have a 30 gallon tank near full. it wood take a lot of treatment. Now if you're down to a few gallons, then it wood help more. Yes 2 stroke can help, but there are far better solutions out there.
Be careful on the drink. Too much of any isn't good. Even a fair amount often isn't good really. I like a drink, maybe 2. If it's an all day gathering, maybe a beer every hour or so and if a hard drink, maybe 1 every 2 hours.
I am no expert, but I use the Howes for lubrication and to prevent gelling. I left for work one time and the truck was running terrible. cutting out and not revving up. It finally dies, and I called my wife and my son found the red bottle of diesel 911. I poured that in to "un-gel" the fuel. once i got it started, it ran fine.

I used Howes in all the trucks before, had some left over. The best one to use is Opti-Lube. If you look at test results, it's always at the top. I ordered it.

Howes has worked for me. best to use year round, but do not be without something for luberosity, and anti gel in the winter. is the opti-lube, also anti gel?

We used Howes for years in the dump trucks. Agreed on year round.
Yes the opi-lube xpd is anti gel down to -10°F and has the highest lubricity of any of the additives. They also make one down to -40°F Plus it increased the mileage the most in the testing. I wasn't aware of it when we had the dump trucks or I woodv'e ran it.
I just ordered it. I was going to order it when I got the truck, but there was a problem with the ordering and I emailed them, never heard back and I forgot about it.

Thanks for the info guys! Uh... Luberosity? What is that and why should I not be without? I spend a fair amount of time reading through heavy equipment forums and must've missed it... And it's fuel system luberosity?
On a boozy side note... So far so good. I've found that while I do enjoy a beer or two after work and often a bourbon after the family goes to sleep, I don't HAVE to have it. We do have some (and some not) diagnosed alcoholism in the family, so I keep that in mind and in check.
everything in moderation. if it interferes with work or family, it requires consideration. If you enjoy it, and can avoid it when needed for work and such ok. most psychiatric dx, include a statement of interfering with a person life and happiness. some feel that a single drop is too much. the classic alcoholic is surround by other alcoholics, and or family and friends that ignore and do not mention the "elephant in the room". be safe. If I have more than a beer or two, I do not drive. with my work I have to be ready to go in if needed. I would hate to have to say, sorry, I have had too much to drink. Docs can go in if needed with a say a beer with a meal. but it does not bode well if a patient or co-worker smells it, even if you are not impaired. with all the alcohol sanitizers, I am not sure I could tell the difference. Out in Hays, an old Volga German settlement, they served beer, wine, and drinks at our medical staff meetings. i was always so busy, I would pass as I still had patients to see. On the weekends, the pharmacy would sub 2 Busch light beers for a sedative. had to look for my patients on rounds as they might be in another patients room, watching the game. :)
I looked into lubricity and it sounds like I'll be picking up some Opti-Lube! Thanks for the tip!

The older diesel formulations it wasn't an issue. It's the newer ones that have removed the lubricating effects of diesel to a much lower amount. so low it can ruin fuel systems rather quickly.

I think.... Power in, no power out
is that a resettable breaker? or is it a relay. I did not install my system so do not know all the fine details. I assume you turned the key to call for fuel. mine starts pumping with the key on, while I let the glow plugs do there thing. mine is outside, so gets plugged in for heat. I just cannot quite read the print.

It's a relay. O'Reilly's has their own brand that matches up.
Yup, powered with key on only. I'm ordering 2 with a green light for its working. I'll switch them out when I get them. Keep in glove box.
I am sure you know this, but contact cleaner followed by dielectric grease may help as well. good job!

Yup. I tested, I think. I used my southwire tester. Not the best with it, but I think I did it properly.
Thanks though
I had to heat up the milkers vacuum tank. Oil was too thick. It was 10°.......

@Nebraska (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=45256) Supposedly allegedly we're suppose to get 15" of the white stuff...... While kinda neat on the one hand, not so much on several other hands, as they talkin -10°F... Be 49° on the next Sunday though.... :o
You'll prolly get a pile also...... :o
@Raider Bill (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=4445) Thanks! works pretty good actually. Amazon. China of course. Couldn't really find an american made one. Pretty simple.
Wow a little bit of winter for you guys, I have a college chum down there that calls to rub it in when he's fishing in shirt sleeves in early March and we struggle to get much above freezing.
Ok, update on the relay..... I did find a matching one. I plugged it in. It didn't work. I'm now thinking it's the lead that goes down to the pump. Fun.....
@Nebraska (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=45256) yeah, usually the winters here are very mild, but we usually get one pretty nasty cold spell. This year it's a cold one with snow and a fairly long one.

factory relays can be complex. should be mainline power in, a signal lead, and power out when called for. with the 5 wires, you may have ground wires for the in and out. make sure you have power to the signal lead as well, may be an inline fuse for those if it is after market. my diesel guy put mine in the fuse box. very frustrating. did you get a schematic with the relay?

Agreed on relays
We matched them with the diagrams, so should be same
We have power in
I traced it back to the fuse box
Fuses are all good at the fuse box. There is a 10 & a 5 amp
We have power in at the lead from the power source with the 2 small sized fuses that are in the fuse box that gets powered when ignition is on
Problem solved!!.. 8)
Problem is there was no power from the 'ignitor'. That is another power source that was on one of the other lines from the lead that went to a 10 amp fuse to the battery. So there are 3 'red' possible power lines and 2 'green' grounds. Ground comes from pump all the way to the lead and then it's grounded through the 5 post lead to the ground on the battery.
The 5 post lead should have one full time power from the battery and then one from the ignition which then trips the relay and sends power down to the pump
so the low amp signal from the ignition had a blown fuse? Yes? sounds like you fixed it! 8) 8) 8)
Quote from: doc henderson on February 13, 2021, 07:41:51 PM

No. It was the 10 amp fuse that came from the battery to the fuse holder, then to the 5 post lead. The tiny 5 amp & 10 amp fuse directly on the battery were fine. But yes, it's fixed.
Wife made butter today and ice cream tonight.... digin_2

Milked the cow. Was pretty windy, but still just light snow. Snowing much heavier now.
I felt kinda bad for her. While I was milking her, she was shivering so badly. It was 3°. But she warmed up quickly while she ate her little bit of grain.
She didn't due too badly, 3 gallons still.

I re-did the top of this table about a year ago or so. You can tell the color is a wee bit off from the edge. The poly was a bit too thick, it's a bit wavy. It's just a temporary table, but the top was bad. I was hoping to build a steam punk dinner table this summer, but didn't get to it.
Thats an interesting and cool looking back splash. I do not like the cold and snow so thankfully I'm never around it. I think in the past 20 years I have seen only hail that piled up enough to look like snow and that was enough for me.
A lot of us here have animals including dairy cows, beef cattle, chickens, sheep, goats, turkeys, and pigs. Horses too but they are for work and play.

Thanks, that's in my man cave. I'll see if i can find a pic.
I used to live in Wisconsin and having to go with 5, 5.5 months worth of ice and cold, had to move south. I kinda like some snow, just don't like this cold.
Sounds like some of us around here. we I think will be in the market for a walking mule this summer. For riding and hunting out west.
@JuanChair (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=54666) I went looking through my computer for a pic of the man cave and I knew I had one somewhere. Then I remembered it was in my gallery already.
here is a better pic. It's kinda dark though.

Thats a cool man cave. I plan on turning my building into my man cave once we finish construction on the new shop and house and I move all the tools and stuff out.
I already have it all planned out and the items to decorate it. I'm going to make it look like an old time cantina / tienda with a huge wooden bar (That I will make myself) and filled with antiques so it looks like you were in the 1960s and walked into an old surviving cantina from the 1940s.
I have the old 1940s wooden table desk with 3 wooden chairs, a 1940s typewriter, a 1930s upright radio, a old cast iron metal fan from the 40s, a 1940s nickel plated Palmolive glass powdered soap dispenser, a round wooden stove, and all sorts of other things like that to fill it with.
The reason I say the 60s, is because I also have a early all original (not restored) 1960s Pepsi slide top chest refrigerator and NOS old metal store signs (Coke, Pepsi, Milk etc..) that would be 60s etc. I even have a few wooden crates of Pepsi glass bottles full of Pepsi in the original 1960s bottles.
The idea is you walk in and think wow you're in a 1960s time warp but then once you look around you realize its more like a 1940s time warp where its as if you were in the 1960s and walked in on it. Kind of a Jedi mind trick
My idea is to create this so you feel like you're in an old store cantina and the bar will have beer and drinks and then Ill have a sectional of couches where I can sit and chill with friends. Ill use it as my personal man cave and after I die, maybe it will be turned into a little mini museum.
This is the wooden stove I just bought that will end up in there.

That wood be awesome! Old is far more preferable to me when it comes to things like that for me. History or antiques i find fascinating. That wood be like stepping back in time.

You need a cow, preferably a high butter fat breed
Best if she gets the majority of her intake via fresh grass
Some grain for minerals, vitamins and extra energy in winter especially is good
Milk her
Filter the milk
Store milk in fridge until cream rises (it's lighter than the milk, since it's an oil)
Separate the cream
Use a wire wisk style mixer
Mix until it goes from cream, to whipped cream, to butter
Takes about 10 minutes i think Depending on how cold the cream is. Better if warmed some
Remove butter from bowl
Wash butter with cold water
Lightly salt
Form into bricks
Easy.......

It basically washes off the remaining milk that got in when we separated the cream. We don't use a mechanical cream separator. They separate the cream much better, but we want some cream in the milk we drink.

Welp, I'm out!
Thanks for the info. I'll have to try it the ol' fashion way of buying cream at the store and converting it. I can't imagine how tasty your fresh made butter is, but not at the cost of me having a cow.
I gotcha. It's not for everyone.
Can tell the color and taste from their diet. Fresh grass cream is darker and tastes creamier i guess I'd say.
I checked the pump house today. It was 41° degrees. There is no heat in this building. Just ground heat. 12" walls.

Yikes on a home. I think it's 14' sq or just a little less.
here's the inside when it was cleaner...... 2, 100 gallon pressure tanks. One for the soft water to the house, faucets near the house and for watering the plants/grass near the house and one for the hard water for the gardens, yards not near the house and animals.

We use to make butter quite often, minus the cow. ;D
We would just go buy cream from a farmer. One day we brought a quart and put it in the back of the car for hours. It was a warm day and by the time we got home, it was well on it's way to being butter. All the sloshing around and with it being warm, most of the work was done. ;)
My mom used to make butter. She had a few milk cows, and I started milking when I was 7 or so. We separated the milk and fed the skim milk to baby calves we bought at the sale. I got a calf every year till I went to college, had enough money to pay for tuition, books and room and board. Had to make my own spending money. Made it through college without a loan. Can't do that anymore on a calf a year for 10 years.

Growing up we had a neighboring farm that had a hire man. He wasn't so well like and one of the kids dumped a gallon of milk in his car in the summer. Totaled the car. Couldn't get rid of the stink.

Not, not even close. Especially with room and board thrown in. Shows how far out of whack it is and will even be worse if collage is free. My wife says we'll pay for our kids tuition, so they don't have any debt. I told her by the time they are in college, tuition will be .250 for a basic degree.
Today, one can still go relatively cheap if living at home go to a community college first. My 21 year old is now getting a partial ride for wrestling.
I've told a few nieces and nephews how to get through college without debt, enlist in the military for 4 years and then work night shift in a factory, that's how I did it. None followed my advice.

Great idea if. My son was all gun ho to become a seal. I talked him out of it. I said if you're going to serve, take a role where you wouldn't be putting your life at risk. I wouldn't ever do it again. Not how things are going. Nope.
My son is planning on going to the local Jr. college to get the G.E. (general ed.) requirements done (cheaply) and then probably to the state university (Sac State) that I went to. Why pay $25k/semester when $2-3k will do? Last Saturday we actually took a quick drive-by tour of the campus that I haven't been on since my son was about 6 or 7. He will 17 in April. A LOT has changed on that campus. Tore down a lot of 60's era single story buildings and put up 3 and 4 story ones. Kind of Jetson's looking.
The -16° didn't change the temperature in our pump house. Still 41°. I suspect it wood eventually drop if it stayed this cold though, but it's nice that I don't need to heat it at all.
Milking today went well. didn't even have too warm up the pump to get it going. We got about 2.5 gallons. Only a half gallon less.

Yes as you said its Yikes in regards to the size of these homes. This is one of the fee government homes they give to poor people. The white part is what you get, these particular people added adobe walls on each side. There is no bathroom, just a small common area, a counter for a cook top and a small bedroom that barley fits a bed. You can see the bricks indicate the width of the small bedroom.
Ill go into more details on how it all works and the free homes once I can post my Q/A thread in the restricted off topic area.

Here's the welder, torch and trailer I picked up for 3k. Welder is a hobart champion 16. little over 400 hrs. Runs good. It needs a new face sticker. I can order one for $55. Oxygen & acetylene are about half full. I need to change the hitch, as too short a wheel base for backing up. Then I'll move the tool boxes up there, so the trailer is more open. I need to make a box for the lights also and a sq pipe mount for the vice.

wow nice score. a little fresh paint and you will have a nice looking rig. I prefer a long tongue on a trailer so it does not get into my vehicle.
Definitely very nice 👍
@doc henderson (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=41041) @Walnut Beast (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=49695) Thanks! 3k doesn't buy much anymore, so thought it was a decent enough price.
it's the pre-miller model. My research showed it to be pretty decent welder. If we build with metal rather than wood, it'll be handy.
I also need to make some decent means to hang the leads and torch hoses. Definitely on the longer trailer tongue. Can't even see this thing in the rear view mirrors. Makes it very hard in backing up. Once i get it done and we're not busy using it, I'll sand blast it and paint it. Prolly will get some decent wheels also.
I have a similar sized Thermal-Arc welder/generator that will power the whole house in an emergency although it's louder than a similar generator. I use some 12" wheels from an old trailer to hang the leads on, works well to hang without a sharp bend.
@gspren (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=17800) I made something similar for the watering hoses. 4 of these. They go in the ground 2' with a 3' sq cement pad
For the welder I think I'll use some of my 7" pipe and make a double pipe spaced about 2' apart with a continuous rounded plate from top to bottom to wrap the leads. This way they won't swing when mobile. I'm getting new leads also. It can handle 250' of 3/0. I'll maybe get 150' of red and 100' of black.

We have a place up the hill that has a lot of apple orchards, called Apple Hill. We bought a recipe book called, The Apple Hill Cookbook. It has all sorts of recipes from the various farms, including one very similar to this one - called Apple Hill Cake. Yummy!
I wouldn't call that cheating, that is being practical. :) thanks pretty sure that will get tried out.

I'll take a really hot bath where I'm sweating for about 30 minutes, then go outside, and if possible roll in the snow. You don't even really feel it, but your muscles have such a hard contraction, many folks doing the same thing will equate it to the best massage ever.

My wife wants to make it an annual, so we bought a hot tub to be installed down on the other end, so we can use it from the house and after jumping in the almost ice cold pond..... ;D
I have to pour a lil crete pad and run some conduit first to box
Was that a video? It only showed as a pic for me. We have a pond but right now it would take some chain-sawing to clear enough ice to get in, not going to happen!

Bought me bride a new ride. New to us anyways. 17 Kia Niro touring hybrid. 40k miles. Gets 45 MPG. Her work is about 35 miles, so a lil'bit over 1.5 gallons there and back. Has leather seats, heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. I like driving it even.

Though I'm no longer huge on the new tech-fangled vehicles that track us and everything we do in the car, I am excited for the day that heated steering wheels are common place. I've only test driven something with that feature and it was really nice.

I think your trailer will handle it just fine 👍
I can dump 9 ton if it's in the rear.
2 loads of compost so far. Biggest load was 13k. I can a little more in the trailer then that. Just one more load though.
They charge $21 per yard. I had 9 yards first load, 12 yards 2nd load, charged for 6 both times.... 8)

Wife decided she wanted a really fast ride to the town this mornin, so she had her heart go a-fib. Passed out walking to bed. Hit her had on the bed. I heard a thump from the bedroom around 5 (I was up watching tv). Ran into the bedroom and she was trying to crawl back into bed. Scooped her up, tossed her the suburban and off to the races.

Oh my!! Not good. Wish her luck.
Was going to say I like the looks of those 6 brown round objects on the grill, but I am more concerned about her.
Blood pressure? Got up too quick?
Hopefully she has a speedy recovery. I'm sure she is going to be really sore for several days. She will be happy your helping her 👍
Doh!! Life can sure change in a hurry. Speedy recovery vibes sent and hope all is well.
Best wishes for your wife. I don't like hospitals but I'm sure glad they are there when you need one.
Aw geez man, that ain't good. A-fib can go a lot of different ways. Hoping for the best outcome!
Thanks everyone!
She's just resting

Hang in there and keep us posted 👍
Just took her to get a feline scan. Abdominal pain
Sedgehammer I will say a prayer for her. I have dealt with A-fib myself for the last 16 plus years and currently setting here with a heart monitor on. Its nothing to take lightly. Take care of her and find the best doctors.
Doc just came in. She's gonna spend the night. They are putting her on a amiodarone drip to get the heart to kick back to a regular heart beat. The other medication wasn't doing it.
That's an anit-arythmiatac (sp?) and hopefully will do the trick. Hang in there! My Dad had A-fib all his life from rheumatic fever as a kid. We know the drill.
Antiarrhythmic. Yup.
Hopefully it flips before blood pressure goes much lower or they'll stop it. Then what comes next hurts.

Ah yup. I wasn't going to mention that. One step at a time. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but i had a friend go through it, hurts like the dickens he said, but was over quick as I recall. That's a way down the road yet. Let the drugs do their thing.
She knows the drill, as she treats patients with it..... they come back all black n blue.....
Trying to sleep right now. Still hasn't flipped.
Well good news! Apparently while I was building this carrier for the welder, she flipped. Now the medicine she is on will most likely need to run it's course, which will be around noon. Then some time needs to pass after the medication ends, till she can come home. so hopefully tomorrow then.
I am headed to spend the night and we'll do a video call to the kids before they go to bed. Our dog is all whiney, she knows I'm going somewhere.
Here's what I built. It will get bolted to the welding trailer and can be removed with the skid and forks. I still have to weld on the tubing and maker the cable wraps though. Maybe tomorrow or Tuesday.

Glad to see the good news this morning.
I hope your wife is ok sedge!
glad she has converted! I am sure she will do well!
Hoping to hear some good news on your wifes condition.

What was her reason for declining the surgery
That ablation procedure is some pretty neat corrective stuff. I did a bunch of research into that for my Dad's case, but it did not apply well for him due to his age. Of course I am not suggesting anything for anybody here. Everybody is different. Just saying when I did the research I was impressed because it can correct those strange pathways over the heart that it creates and can disrupt the electrical pathways that control the firing order in the heart. It's very complicated stuff and cradiology was always one of my weaks spots until my Pop needed some extra care and I needed to understand it better, so I studied a bit.
Whatever you guys decide, I sure hope it works out for the best and she is feeling top notch very soon.

Oh, another bit of news. I had an MRI on my right shoulder last week. doc called me yesterday. Near 100% tear in the roto cuff, 2 other tendons almost 100% torn, collarbone rubbing on bone directly on where it connects to my shoulder. she said 3 hours in surgery. 12 to 14 weeks recovery time. :o :o :o
I guess i shouldn't be surprised. I've fell on it badly a few times since me accident with my stumbling and bumbling. If it wasn't for my pain meds for my back, I can't hardly move it.
Sounds like you have some taking care to do for both you and your wife sedge! Take it easy!

@Raider Bill (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=4445) and you'd be most welcome! Not sure that's a goid club to be in, but be in i am. How'd yours turn?
Mine turned out alright. The tendonitis I have that runs down my bicep is really the only issue I have with my shoulder surgery.
Now my knee surgery, that's a another story :'( :'(
I'll be bringing you some good ale. smiley_beertoast
I had my left shoulder done 10 years ago, scraped out the bone spurs underneath, sawed off the end of the shoulder bone and removed a tendon (or was it a ligament?) with it. Also had the AC joint grinding that youve got but it was left alone. The surgery did discover a pretty good tendon tear, also left as is.
Im certain my right shoulder is just as bad. They both hurt equally, and both elbows/wrists have become trouble since then. Ive concluded getting old is for the birds and highly recommend avoiding it!
Getting old is the hardest work anyone will ever have whether you want to work or not

Here's what we been doing last little while. Stem wall for the garden and property line fence. Hope to pour tomorrow.
Rains so hard and fast here, unless you have a garden on flat ground, it washes out badly every year. Stem wall stops that. Also putting in an outhouse pit. Hating having to run inside to go #2 & i strongly dislike removing shoes.

Here's some of the lumber for the barn build. Had to go to Louisiana. 6.5 hour drive one way. Saved about 5.2k.
Spent 2k rebuilding the orange trailer. Had 3.5k axles that were junk and no brakes. Put 2, 7.5k axles and 14 ply tires under it. Added 3" c-channel cross members. Put 4" c-channels under the original 4" c-channel hitch frame. Then added a 1/4" x 12" x 10' plate to strengthen the angle frame from the hitch 4" c-channel back.
Hope to dig footings this week.

sorry to see the hospital bill! nice work on the trailer and stuff.
Always in 3's for those helicopters... I don't know why. There was a while when they were flying those all over Dayton for several days. Pretty cool but I also assume they are looking for something. Maybe not...
military has lots of mandatory flight hours and training and stuff. i didnt know any pilots being in a repair squadron but its pretty well understood when you live on a base. they fly them just to fly them. touch and go's all day long.. just land, take off, circle, land, take off. that sorta thing.
Footins are dug..... ;D

Hope you are feeling a lot better after this (and the cartoons wash off).

I think she let her little boy in and did the drawin. still there after showerin. Thanks on the getting better part, anytime i used it before I could feel the burn in my arm. that shite hurt. on top og just the pain of moving the shoulder
Well behave yourself, listen to the wife and get well soon. :)
Whatd they do in there? AC joint or in the shoulder?
@Nebraska (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=45256) yeah, hard to do..... Wife is all over me to do nothing..... That's a first..... ;D
@mike_belben (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=33722) shoulder. 3 torn tendons and the collarbone was rubbing on the shoulder something or another. apparently wasn't suppose to be.... :D
i had the same. they removed a ligament and shaved the shoulder but left the tendon tear and its never really got better. other one that wasnt operated on is worse. and man it was painful. glad the procedure has improved.
Do nothing with that arm, nothing.
Trust me.
Nothing.
Kinda odd the ways things are. Get a knee replacement and as soon as you wake up, they want you walking. :o
Wife had a torn something in the shoulder. Took off the sling to do her exercises and that was it. Was during harvest time. She thought she could hold onto the beans with the fingers and snip with her good arm. She told the therapist what she was doing and she asked the wife what part of do nothing with that arm you don't understand?
Listen to Raider Bill and your Doctor too. ;D
@Raider Bill (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=4445) i know, but it's so hard not to move it some as there's no pain. I am not using it, but have held my phone a few times while looking at it. Not lifting with it.
@thecfarm (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=436) yeah, I know, but really trying not to.
Thanks though guys. I need the scolding.... ;D
It is very easy to use it. I simply moved a skillet across the stove. POP.
NOTHING!
@Raider Bill (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=4445) i hear ya and i'm a tryin. so far so good i guess. darn hard not use it though that's for sure. our full time handyman is also on my case about not using it. well, him and my wife want me to do basically nothing. not even with my left hand..... :o

Did you need a steroid shot after the fact ? My shoulder was soooo painful that she gave me 3 shots. 1 in the shoulder, 1 in the elbow and 1 in my thumb. All 3 now are pain free. Thought surgery was to fixate the pain issue. I can now throw anything I want. The nerves were fixated, so that part is good, but the pain was worse than before the surgery
I meant do nothing while the shoulder was healing and still in the sling.
I made the mistake of picking up a cast iron skillet from the stove which set me back weeks.
I did end up getting a shot in a tendon after the fact.
Now, over a year later its doing great. I do sometimes tweek it but do do happens.
Every time I try to take it easy for a day If I'm feeling a bit of pain I only last till around 10am then I'm gradually picking things up, next thing you know it's been 4 hours later. Well might as well be a work day now

Agreed, that is a fine one right there.
I was lucky to be there when I was. It only lasted a few minutes
We lifted it 3" and we decided to sandblast the frame on the 8.1 liter since it was getting the new box painted. We went with the chassi saver paint, then painted over with rustoleum gloss black. It's not perfect, but looks nice enough.
I ordered a set of 285-65R20 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A K02s & a set of moto metal 970s

I've heard good things. My friend has them on his toyota tundra that he uses in his landscaping business. pulled a lot of trailer and did a lot of hunting off road, had over 80,000 miles on them when he got his new ones. That's what sold me
Sounds about on par. I had about 120k (KM) on mine before I swapped them out for another set last oct. still got about 60% tread(did extra driving last year. Won’t be disappointed
