About a month ago I cut down a good sized red oak for logs to saw into lumber. When the tree fell it split from the crotch down the trunk a ways.

I cut two logs off the butt end and the tree split way apart.

I cut both halves off at the crotch and pulled them out to an open area where I could work on them.

I cut them into 4 foot lengths and transported them to the barnyard.

Now I'll have to go back and get the rest of the tree.

       Happy sawing.....Cutter

Your like the tree whisperer - Your splitter work is literally cut in half!
Nice grab.

Easy does it

Wouldn't this tree still been a good candidate for quarter sawn stuff or since it split on impact would it have lots of stress?

I considered sawing what lumber I could from those halves but decided against it because of the possible stress. Maybe all the stress was released when it split in half. I don't know. Anyway, I have a need for firewood and I have plenty of good oak trees available.
