If I remember right curly comes from yellow birch .Maybe white has curl also.

Whether it saws that way I don't know, but I've seen curly grain in a lot of white birch I'm processing for firewood. Most white birch is straight grained and pops open nice, you can definitely tell the difference when you get into the curly stuff it's almost like elm.

When I looked up curly birch it said that it was caused by a genetic defect and it only grew in Finland and Russia. That must be a specific type because like many things "curly" can have varying degrees.

I have had soft maple that I believe Danny referred to as curly. there is quilted and birds eye. it may also be in the area of branches ect.

About ten or maybe fifteen years ago , I got my curly birch from the U.P. area. My guy tells me that no one is bothering to cut birch trees . He used to go to the mills and buy the curly birch logs.

Ants came after the damage was caused by decay/rot in the pine. Good indicators of rotten wood.

Might make some good boards when dried and finished off nice.

my buddy Dallas wanted to know if I wanted some ERC logs? No, I have 200 logs in my yard. nest question would I saw them for making a table with epoxy for him and a buddy? yes.

killing ants and flashing off some moisture. 5 inches thick.

Res I know you sing some country music, so when you mentioned you had sawn it, I thought it was you had seen the town of butternut, and was using the past tense for having seen it. "sawn".

Brandi, not sure it would be cost effective. I get it free, and my buddy has about 600 more logs 20 feet long and already limbed. He is clearing some pasture ground (about 100 acres) of these trees. the ground was unattended for 30 + years. Let me know if you happen to be up this way with a trailer.

Funny how ERC is prevalent in some areas and scarce in others. Around here, I could cut it and sell it for closet paneling all day long.

Tried sawin' ERC once, not gonna try than again!

I started sneezin', eyes waterin' and got da itches something fierce. I'll stick to Northern White Cedar it's lots better stuff.
