There has been a pile of logs sitting in a field near my cabin project.  They are just inside a section of National Forest.  I was thinking hoping that they were cedar and would make some nice slabs.  However, they were just pine - but pretty spectacular in how they were decaying:

 

 

 

Kind of looked like some monster worm mouth! :o

A good visual as to how trees grow / how knots show up in lumber.

Looks like some of what loggers around here will use for a temporary culvert!
