Do you want the heart in the center of the beam or not? Does that not put the hardwoods pith in the middle of a beam?

I hear different things on this subject, but have not done enough reading to know which is correct.

Can beams be spliced together?

Doc:
I've posted lots of info on this subject here on the forum, including pictures. You'll have to find it and read up.
Also, there are joints to joint timbers end to end. They are called scarf joints.

Will do!

I had figured that you had. I have been sitting here reading through several other posts you have made about various aspects of timber framing and find the reading very interesting as well as enlightening. I am fighting off a pretty good case fo the flu or I woudl be working instead of reading, but I woudl rather be reading.

Good stuff no doubt!
