Where to purchase - TF Layout Square
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:05:04 AM »
I have read & referenced a number of postings on the forum and it is a great resource - thank you! I am new to timber framing and my first project will is a small cabin. In order to do faster, accurate layouts I am looking to purchase a TF layout square. I know Jim Rogers has some of the Big ALS potentially coming in stock. I might try to get my hands on a Big AL, however, I believe the Timber Frame Layout square that was previously made by Timber Frame HQ has more functionality / versatility than a Big AL. Does anyone know I could find a Timber Frame Layout square - new, used or even potentially the design file so it could be printed with a 3-D printer?

I have read, understand, and agree to the terms of posting an ad on the Forestry Forum.

Have you looked at Chappell Squares?

Thank you very much S.D. for your quick response and suggestion. I searched Chappell Squares and it came up with a square that looks (to my novice eye) similar to a regular framing square but more detail relevant to timber framing. What I like about both the Big AL and the TF Layout Square is that it is used similar to a speed square with the lip and that the mortises are basically a template. For my first timber framing project I believe this type of square will speed up my work and hopefully I will make less mistakes. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Just be aware that that square in not in fractions of an inch. Its in decimal inches.
Good for drawing 90° lines and such.

Thank you Jim for adding your knowledge here. This is the first forum I have ever been a part of and it is a wonderful resource. I may be coming to you Jim for a Big AL.

I have a waiting list, which right now has 29 names on it.
I hope to get a batch soon, within two weeks. but I'm unsure of the exact price per unit until then.
