Ordering Kasco Blades
« on: September 22, 2017, 02:57:16 AM »
I had thought I might order some Kasco blades and give them a trial so I clicked the ling on the left of the page. So far so good. Problem is now that I look at the web site I see they offer several different configurations but when I go to the blade section to order online I only see an offering for 7* and 10* in .042 and .055. Where do I order other configurations from?

You can contact Kasco directly so they know their presence here is truly productive.

On the Kasco sponsor board you will see two names listed as moderators. They are both Kasco Factory Reps. BVC and Sawman815

The best way to order blades is to contact one of our distributors. Although we have a website that has some of our blades on it has never been our intention to sell that way. Also you will probably find that our distributor can sell you the blades at a lower cost.
Please visit our news page and see the .pdf of our blade profiles.
https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/board,91.0.html

Currently we do have an active distributor on this site that represents our blades.
Cutting Edge Saw Service aka "Cutting Edge" on the forum. He has been an excellent resource for sawyers needing advice on blades.
To order blades contact him at 304-878-3343 or PM myself, go to our website https://www.kasco.com/ and fill out an inquiry form, or call 1-877-366-1696.

We will do our best to make sure you get the blades you need.

I did indeed contact Richard and now have a box of 7's on the way along with a 7* cam kit. While everyone else is moving to the 4* blades I'm only just now trying the 7's. I had previously been using WM 9's although in reality they were 8's after the first sharpening on my Cooks.
Now I just need to get back home so I can try them out.

Richard at Ciutting Edge has always done me better than right! I highly recommend his sharpening service.
Just last week he found a problem with a box of Kasco blades which I sent him to sharpen. I had a new box on the porch TWO DAYS later. Could not be happier.

I'll jump in with my support for CuttingEdge (Richard).  I learned a tremendous amount about blade design from him at Jake's get together earlier this year, and he custom ground some 4 degree bands for me to try out.

So glad you got it in motion, and I will say I will find it hard to believe that you are not well pleased, my biggest like to these blades are the way they handle resharpening. Well, fact is hands down these blades just rock,,not much else to say, they saw and they last,,,,
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

I've sent my first box off to Richard based on reviews from this forum. I've exchanged numerous emails with him and have spent a generous amount of time on the phone discussing bands. He's professional, polite, and a genuinely good guy looking to help others get issues resolved. Can't wait to get this box of bands back from him and get to sawing some hickory.

I have been a customer of Cutting Edge, Richard, for a number of years now.  He is not only just a factory direct Kasco blade distributor and a blade sharpening service. He also custom saws logs on his own mill using the blades he sells and sharpens. Doing so gives him the ultimate insight in blades and their performance. This allows him to give advice based on real world sawing experience, not just a company representative spouting advice from a company mandated print form info sheet. For those of you out there that are frustrated with your mills blade performance and need another source to help end your frustration, give him a call.  He is all about helping his customers with overall integrity that is beyond reproach.

I want to order a sampler pack :)

I should do that before I finish building my mill cause I have this terrible feeling the first log is going to be all metal. and the 1 blade I have will not last me very long.

I have been using WM Double Hard but I decided to start using/trying Kasco so I ordered a box of 15 from Richard at Cutting Edge. The first thing I noticed was that they seemed more flexible then the WMs even though both are the same thickness - 0.045". This made me think about the proper tension for them. My mill uses a spring tensioner so I can't be quantitative on tension; I use the same setting as I did on the WMs. They tracked well but I need to know if the tension I used on WM bands is OK for these. Yesterday was the first time I used them and I only edged slabs so I can't really report on their performance but given their popularity I have high expectations.

kelLOGg,

Run the tension where you always have.

For a more technical answer - 22,000 - 24,000 lbs of strain,

Thank You for your business !  Have any other questions, let me know.

NOTE:  To others reading this, DO NOT exceed sawmill manufactured setting as the above numbers may exceed what the mill head and/or related components were designed/manufactured to handle.

Richard,
I will soon sharpen the first Kasco band on my CatClaw. I have cams for Lennox (which I used for WM bands), Excel (for Cooks bands) and Simonds. What is the best cam for Kasco bands?

kelLoGg,

Sorry, can't answer that question due to cams having such a wide variance and inconsistent manufacturing... Ex- (2) cams supposed to be the same but literally have different profiles.

Best advice is to go by previous usage of what you have there and match up what is cam produced a profile similar , then profile/dress the wheel to put the finishing touch on.

I don't recommend the blue stones as they wear far to fast and literally begin to change shape within the first 20 teeth... Use a pink wheel.

Hope this helps
