Title: Our Pier and White Oak Sill Beam Foundation Design
Post by: ziggy on June 06, 2012, 07:31:05 AM
Hi there. We've been as busy as bees building the floor platform for our new timber frame house. The elevated floor platform design incorporates 12" diameter poured concrete piers, 8x12 white oak sill beams, and 3x10 white oak floor joists.

Here are some images of the platform during construction: //small-scale.net/yearofmud/2012/06/05/timber-frame-house-floor-platform/

We just finished laying reclaimed t&g subflooring over the main portion of the house yesterday. Yahoo!

The house is raised to avoid the high moisture issues in this climate. (We're in northeast Missouri.) Almost all homes here with ground contact require some kind of active de-humidification during warmer months to avoid excessive indoor moisture and mold. We wanted none of that. (It was a big problem for us in our current home.)

The floor platform will be insulated with 20 inches (!) of blown cellulose later during construction, once the roof is up.

Until ziggy posts the pictures in his gallery, the link needs to have a http put in front of it to get it to work.
