While we were visting Vancouver Island this summer we stopped at McLeans  Sawmill which was shut down in 1965. It's open to the public as a living museum now and has lots of nice old logging and milling equipment to see.

This reminds me of the tracked thing that loggah fixed up

1965 that ol' truck wasn't wedged between two trees.

I'd love to have that truck. We had a hay truck with the head lights on the fenders like that an when we got it loaded we'd ride on the head lights on the way back to the barn ;D.

Kick the fender on a pre 1948 Dodge truck and see how your foot feels.

Hilltop366

I bounced a piece of fire wood off the rear fender on the 95 dodge when the wood slipped out of my hand while I was trying to throw it in from 10 feet away, it didn't leave a mark but I don't know if you could even lean on a fender on a new truck without putting a crease in it.

My uncle would tell me about the 1934 car he had that they would a straighten out nails on the front fender.

Look how thick the door is. This was some sort of cool room or ice house

Winches, I think. What were these for and how were they used?

I hadn't made the connection but they do look like the ones on this donkey. This one is powered by a flat head V-8 rather than steam.

This one has a V-8 for power

V-8 engine

Would I be correct in assuming that they moved these things by running a cable through the fairlead on the front and winching it through the woods?

The 2 trucks in the shed looks like an Ohio pic just out side Coal Run. I had to take a good hard look

florida

The trucks in the shed are in decent shape considering their age and how hard they must have worked.

This one really looks like a tree fell on it.

Looks like it will buff right out and be good as new.  :D

That V8 looks like someone tried to get it running in the not-to-distant past.  The radiator hose and clamp are mighty new looking.  Did you notice who made the engine?

As far as I can tell they were still doing demonstrations donkeys 2 years ago. The girl that was working the day we were there told me they had lots of "enthusiasts" who wanted to come run the equipment but that the mill had a broken part they couldn't replace. Sounded fishy to me but she was in no position to know anymore than that.

I tried calling the phone number (39) on the door of that second truck.  I wanted to know if they'd sell it to me ;D.  Nobody picked up, they must be busy :D

That appears to be a flat head ford engine.  It has the two water hoses from the heads to radiator, the spark plug wires go forward to the distributor on the front of engine and the yellow piece lower front is one of two water pump/motor supports. (One on each side). time line would about 1932 ? until 1953.

Keep trying that number! They probably took the weekend off but I'm sure someone will get back to you. You know you have to be using a dial phone for that number don't you?

Thanks.  The heads didn't look right to me for a Ford.  I guess the heads changed a little over the years.  Glad you could clear that up for me.

easymoney

that is definitely a flat head ford. it would be a 1948 or earlier. ford moved that radiator hose to the front of the head in 1949. those engines was hard to keep cool if ran hard. i ran them in race cars in the early 60s i would like to have one in a hotrod today but probably will never be able to afford one.

btulloh

It seems like most of them have been found and put to use.  Hard to find one at reasonable price.  I hear there's one on Vancouver Island that's not doing anything.   :D  Maybe they'd take a nice small block chevy in trade.   ;)
