I took the guides off...upped blade tension....and run 1 1/2" blades on a 16 hp Baker...definitely a huge improvement

I ordered two 1.5x.045 double hards in standard 7 degree today. If they don't work for me at least my curiosity will be satisfied.

The regular 7's do pull easier than the turbos, sounds like a good plan. Will be interested to see how they work for you.

The Kasco 7s have been working real good for me. So I can experiment with some other blades and if it doesn't work out I've got something to fall back to.

I'm with MM. I've got two coming as well.
Looking for more "beam" strength on the 40 wide. Still running the 1&1/4" roller guides so may be hoping for to much.
I run my stock guides and they do fine.
I may be skinny but I'm a Husky guy

I tried some 1-1/2" x 0.045 x 10° WoodMizer blades a while back and they let me saw a little faster in wide Douglas-Fir with a 28 HP EFI engine. That was in 2008. The only issue I had with running 1-1/4" mixed with 1-1/2" blades was that I had to adjust the guide rollers back about 1/8" with the wider blades. So yes, those 1-1/4" rollers work with both, but you can't just switch blades.

The following year my friend, John, switched from 1-1/4" x 0.045's to 1-1/2" x 0.050's using the same mill. He found he could really push the blade, but he also mentioned he'd bought 1-1/2" wide blade guide rollers. I didn't know they made them.

So ... after I used the last of my 1-1/4" blades, I bought the new rollers and I've been sawing with the wider blades ever since.

I ended up sharpening John's blades for him, and I dislocated my shoulder (seriously) trying to fold those thicker blades :o.

Bottom line, with a 28Hp gas engine I'm happy with the 1-1/2" x 0.045 blades, but I wouldn't use anything thicker.
