Ash tree Fungus or ?

Walnut Beast

This is on several ash trees. Wondering if they are going to die or what's going on. The ash boar had wiped out many big ones years ago. I assume

Fungal hyphae rot wood.  Those are fruiting bodies I suspect.  Heartrot is fungal.  Have you cut into one yet?

That's a bummer. I was hoping to maybe use them for some framing lumber. I haven't cut into them yet. The tops of the tree seem to be growing good
