Elcassic 2300, guage in the back reading 140, digital reading 185 (That was the FIRST problem).

NOW: smoke coming out the back, fuse blew. Replaced it, fuse blew again. Circulator running.

5 degrees outside.

Help!

So, I'm wondering. Is the guage in the back measuring the water coming BACK to the boiler? If so, I'm all set (I think). If not, please fill me in.

Wow! What a firestorm THAT was! As it turns out I had a bed of coals that were blocking the holes on the side by about 4 inches ABOVE the holes. I'd never really had to clean out the box itself, just the chamber below. Put a new fuse in, cleaned out the fire box completely, started up as fresh fire, no more smoke coming out the back. I think I just starved the hell out of the rig. We'll see. For those of you who figgered, 'well dude, you're on your own.' Well, that's probably the best way to learn, I guess. Whew.

Thank goodness for forums like this. This is the first time I think I have even seen a topic posted, problem articulated, and then solved all by the same person!

Yes that is a new problem I haven't heard about. Especially blowing a fuse. My question is if the guage in the back is your return why such the difference between temps? I would expect a little temperature drop but 40 degrees?

Today I opened up the back panels and noticed a reddish dust all over. This was not there last year. I then opened up the electrical control box and there was a lot of the reddish dust, enough that I had to use a scraper to get it out.

Anyone seen this?

MudBud, I am starting to see this reddish ash too - mine is at all four corners, but no where else. Almost looks like rust.

I had the fuse blow on mine. It turned out to be a bad selonoid. It was an easy part to replace.

Strange to see this topic. I just had an issue with my boiler not quite keeping up. it was holding 175 but I have it set at 185. I cleaned the fusion chamber. No help. Good flame in the chamber. It turned out that I also had to much coal and ash. Once I cleaned it out and cleaned the air holes and now no problem.
