So I was talking with my dad earlier this week and and he thought he had broken the by-pass damper on his CB 2300 (installed in 2011?). It all started when he loading up boiler and operated the bypass, and heard a THUNK.

So after cooling down the boiler, by dumping heat, he starts tearing into the OWB.  Come to find out the linkage between the handle and damper became unthreaded and fell apart.  So after a bit of finagling he got everything back together and put a jam nut below the threaded connector.

...so back up and running just in time for heating season (instead of the middle of winter in a snow bank)

I had that happen with mine before. Then I actually had the linkage weld brake. So I rewelded that. Now it works great, but the little plastic grommet by the handle has now worn out so the damper does not stay open on its own now when pulled. I simply clamp it with vicegrips after i pull it out. But i dont use the damper that much anyway. Or bypass is actually what they call it.
