A gentleman E mailed me and I lost his E mail . We use a 12" chain Binder hooked to the throttle handle with a half loop and then hook the other end to the second cable hole that feeds the throttle. This works great one easy flip powers up and at the end of the cut flip it back I was tired of holding that handle have arthritis what a difference.
As for the Band yes when you make a cut if you watch the band at the drive wheel it moves about an inch to the rear and the noise you are hearing is the band rubbing on the back of the aluminum guide. Your band might not be tight enough the manual said to turn it 5 turns to reach proper tension does a turn mean 180 or 360 degrees
We are going to  install the Cooks guide wheels and get rid of the ceramic in the future if you would like a picture of the chain binder set up e mail me at scott@catskillpond.com not sure how to post picture here.
