Haskap berries

They have been recently introduced from Japan, look like an elongated blueberry, and seem to do well in our soil and climate. I tried the syrup on toast today, it is really good. Tastes to me like a raspberry/blueberry cross and is quite intense. The grower said sales are taking off after a slow start last year.

Haskap or Honey berries grow all over the northern part of the world. They come in many varieties and should be planted with two different types. Here in the Duluth area they do very well. I use mine to make wine out of them. Here is a good way to harvest them. Take a kids wading pool and split it in half and slide it under the bush, then shake the bush and the berries will fall into it. Saves a lot of time picking. I have trouble with some type of worm that eats leafs and berries so just as the plants start to flower I start checking for them.
