Is if ok to stack jars in either/both a pressure canner or water canner?

The Ball Blue Book was silent but the pressure cooker book that came with it showed a drawing of stacked jars with another spacer plate, like the one at the bottom, between layers.

Don is correct about the spacer.
Make sure the canner is big enough too.
