Is there a "rule of thumb" for width shrinkage in poplar? If you want a 6 inch board what would you cut it at? I realize there is no hard and fast rule, just want fence boards to be close to 6 inches when dry.

Don't over dry and the shrinkage won't be great. For a fence, 20% would be OK. The DKOM list tangential shrinkage for poplar at 20% as less than 3%.

Thanks Den, that's what I needed to know.
