That is not a hobby mill!!! The only thing that would make me nervous is that, if I read this right, it's already disassembled.
In one Nomad, apparently been lying dissambled this 2 years.
Which could be why there is no intrest on ebay.
Which is why I am getting on a plane to go looksee.
Not that I will be a lot the wiser after ::)

Why is this not a Hobby Mill ???
Not saying that you couldn't restore it and run it as a hobby, but people usually talk about hobby mills as things like LT10s, Woodlands or my little 6" swing blade. Things you can drag out of the shed on a Sat afternoon and cut a few logs ;)
That's a real sawmill there. :D
But if you have the space to set it up, and the mechanical inclination to get it running and tuned right, then I don't see a problem. It's a full on commercial sawmill for the price of a "hobby' mill.

Space not an issue, an I have a reasonably square eye in my head, an I enjoy tinkering an am handy enough with a welder (well on mild steel)
IF I committ and buy, I hope I should be able to get it running, being possessed of a modicum of engineering intuition :-\

I allowed the first link because by your posting it, you were probably just hurting your own chances at buying the mill, but I'm stopping it there. So, what did you find on your visit?
That would be a huge undertaking! What are your plans for it?
For me to haul that very far at all, spend the time and money to set it up, find and replace anything broken or missing and get it usable, I'd have to have guaranteed sales, guaranteed wood, and the plans and resources to keep it running permanently.
Unless of course you have an outlet to sell it in running condition for a huge profit when it's fixed up, now that I can understand perfectly. ;D

Not in the least concerned with potential re-sale, timber sales or RoI.
I simply like things that were engineered without the current focus on reduction of production costs and constructed to last.
£500.00 should bring it to Co. Antrim.
I would set it up myself . . . .eventually.
As to what I found, not a lot the wiser, certainly only recently removed, and appears to all be there, 3 Ph motor looks very fresh, all adjusters appear to turn, move and slide, a couple or 3 dents in mild steel guards, and minor damage due to the rushed removal (divorce settlement)
Rollers for the sliding bed all turning freely with no play or rumble in the bearings
I have no idea as to the state of crown of the bandwheels, they look very flat, but so did the bandwheels on the Stenner that was up and running in the same yard, I was assured? both mills had recently had the band wheels re-crowned.
Not entirely sure it is the best/optimum/correct mill for me but recalling the best defination of a bargain I have ever read.

On which basis I was more than happy ;D to be out-bid by someone who knows more about this Mill, its hertitage or proper value.
The vendor did suggest that it would be the perfect Mill to set up on a 40' flat bed trailer, for use or show.
Couldn't argue with that idea.

I like the concept of vertical band mills, off bearing is made easy by way of conveyors, It looks to be a heavy built one. david
