My 044 has a 20" bar on 90% of the time with a 24" on occasion.
Stihl 041, 044 & 261, Kubota 400 RTV, Kubota BX 2670, Ferris Zero turn

Might sound hard to believe but Dan Henry from Pa ported an 044 that had no problem running 36" bar with full comp chain .I ran it and can testify to that as fact. I have on occasion used a 32" bar  running skip on my 038 Mag which is also souped up .Usually it's also a 20" but with a 8 tooth rim .All that said any 044 I've ran would or should not have a problem with a 24" bar .

That was very common here in softwood, a nicely balanced package.

I weighed the 562XP and 044 PHO no fuel and oil.
Surprised to see the 562 is quite a bit heavier.
So it looks like Stihl's 12.8 lb spec is close enough. Left over oil and gas in saw probably made the difference. 
12lb 14oz = 12.875 lbs
