Title: leaky MTD valve and replacement/fix options
Post by: Lancer on January 02, 2020, 01:15:46 PM
My 2016 cub cadet log splitter control valve (MTD manufacturer) is leaking at the detent cover.  Simple fix would be to replace the O-ring, but MTD only sells the complete valve (>$243).

I was wondering if I could replace MTD with the EnergyMFG valve (<$100), they look identical in almost every respect.  EnergyMFG support is excellent and they will send seals and bearings for free.

Or, does anyone have a comment on replacing the seal in an MTD valve (Part#718-04706P)

Thanks

If it's just an O-ring get some measurements and go to a good auto parts place and get an o-ring. Most manufacturers use standard size o-rings and seals.

Mine did the same thing.
My valve didn't have a Oring in it.
They wanted $255 for a new valve from the Mtd distributors.
I was able to buy a new valve directly from the manufacturer for $136 shipped to my door.
PM if you would like the info where I bought it from.

The valves are generic, just replace it with one that has the same thread. A lot easier than trying to rebuild one that was likely made overseas
