Here's a project my son decided to do and completed. I was impressed and liked it and thought you might enjoy it.

On log beds, I'll share these ideas:
I've made them using Sassafras "logs". I cruised the woods looking for interesting shapes for the upper horizontals, straights for the posts, corners and small verticles, tape marked in place with construction tape and cut then airdried in a barn. I lightly sanded to bark just enough to eliminate loose pieces falling off in use. After glue up I ten doused it all heavily with danish oil. I'll post a pic soon.
The tenon cutter I use is a VG choice but I forget the brand name for now. Mine uses a router with a bull nose cutter.
