I figured its about time I started my own milling thread. Everyone please feel free to post in this thread.

So Western PA has been extremely rainy this year. This week has been no different.
I came out to the mill yard yesterday after 4.25 inches of rain in about 36 hours to find this

Luckily there was no damage to the lumber. So I took five minutes and got it cleaned up

I set it aside to be sawn into firewood later and got back to sawing and finished the 4x17 beams I was working on

Very nice. I have equipment envy, yours is bigger than mine. I wanted a skytrack but couldn't find one in my price range that wasn't old and ragged out or had a ton of hours. We have had the opposite problem here in west Michigan  hot and humid with little to no rain in weeks. I'm working in a dust bowl over here.

If you were closer busy Beaver we could swap equipment back and forth :D
I'd love to get set up with an edger.
How's you're new equipment working out for you?

There are definitely days I could use more muscle in the lifting dept . Today for example I had to split a stack of walnut that my bobcat wouldn't lift. I could get it to lift about 2ft but no more. I made a flat stack, no stickers 5ft x 4ft of 11 and 12ft 5/4 and had to scramble to split it so I could get it to the grader in time to get a check this week. My equipment has been pretty good so far.  The mill has had some bugs but with the help of the forumites and woodmizer it seems to be running smooth now. I had some intermittent problems that seem to have been solved with a new ECU. Nothing that's kept me from running, just some hiccups now and then. Anybody who ever turned wrenches knows it's the intermittent problems that are the hardest to solve. When something is flat out broken it's usually pretty easy to diagnose.  The edger has already saved me a ton of time . I don't know how the gas ones are for power but the diesel doesn't even sound like its breaking a sweat feeding it 5/4 walnut or 4/4 hickory and hard maple.

I was thinking you went to Paradise for the day. ;D
We use to go to the auction there in Loretto. The produce and flower one.

Just curious,  what are the 4x17 beams going to be used for?

You got me beat Peter. I can only go 32 :D

I'm only half way here

well a little more than half. That slab pile is stacked 18' high. It needs to get cold out so I can move some of it!
Uh oh I may get banned for that comment. :snowball:

Today was an almost wide head day!
I maxed my mill out. The customer wanted a live edge slab from his log.

Got that done and it started raining again.
And I didn't feel like getting soaked bucking logs so I realigned my laser that has been a tad off.

I believe I got this idea from @ElectricAL
It is the quickest most effective way I've found.

Then I got the Bibby attachment permanent on my mill

It really speeds up blade changes.

Build a slab cabin. Make it entirely with slabs :)

PAmizerman

I sell them cheap for firewood.
I sell them bundled just as they are
And precut by the pick up load.
My slab cutting rack and a 3' bar make short work of it.

I'm finally getting some logs in now. It's been so wet here I have not been able to get logs in for a couple months. My stash was getting really low.
Now I'm getting hammered. I had three loggers contact me this week.

I'll be getting a triaxle load in tomorrow.

Nice rack! I need to build myself something like that. I have been sliding them off my mill into a pile and using the grappler on my bobcat to pile them into a mountain of mess. Really need to do something about that.

PAmizerman

Sawed a bunch of live edge slabs the other day. I've been having more and more requests for them.
Anyone ever saw apple?
This was my first time. Not sure how they will dry. It was either slabs or firewood.
And I didn't feel like splitting firewood :D
