I've noticed this forum is tilted toward the northern end of the US.  Anyone know of other sites that focus on the southeast?  Please email them to me, as I understand y'all don't want other forums promoted (ie: advertised) on here.

Thanks!

If you go to the member map you will see that we are well represented in the South. Some of the oldest members reside here. We have a broad base of knowledge and expertise to draw from on all things Southern including Grits (old joke). There just seems to more northern influence at the moment as they are all snowed in  :D :D ;) and us southern boys are enjoying spring and are hard at work as usual and can only pause at the computer for brief moment every now and then. There are turkeys to hunt, fish to catch, logs to saw, timber to cruise, homes, sheds , workshops to build, visits to be made at other members homes and too much more to elaborate on. I am sure more of the good ole boys will sign in. ;D

As far as the other sites I have visited one a coupla times and decided there was to much good stuff going on here to waste my time at other sites.  If you lose too many days here, it is a lot of reading to catch up. Hang around a while, read old posts( you are way behind probably) and I think you will find that this forum has a lot to offer, especially friendship and wisdom. :)

I'm probably one of the biggest "Yankees" on the forum, but I love the diversity of this place, and would not want it any other way.  The jokes and humor are just in good fun.  Hang around, and you'll love it too.  I like hearing about the different challenges we face either geographically, or due to our equipment choices (ex. sawmill type).  I learn many, many things about people and their approach to different problems here every day.  It is the best place on the internet.

Jeff spoke with a couple of us before he started this here club house, and one of them was Steve Nix.  Steve runs a board for About.com, called of all things, Forestry.  It is different than this one, but, since he is an Alabama forester, covers the south east with a local flair.  It does not do as much with the milling as does this site, but concentrates on the land, forestry, plants and such.  I think the two sites compliment each other quite well, and I read them in sequence.  Jeff and Steve occasionally cross pollinate the two sites, but mostly leave it up to those of us who work both sides of the street.

Oh yeah, to be honest, I am an administrator over at Steve's site, but don't hold that against me.

We have some active members from N.M., they just did not use the members map. The members map has kinda out grew its programming. Firefox will load it well, but IE does not.

Ya, I know, but I thought it was just the joys of dialup. I tried to look at the map again and after it stopped responding I just shutdown and restarted. I did not wait for that message that says something like "we received your request and we can have it ready next Tuesday, not this coming Tuesday but the NEXT Tuesday."   :)

Dare should be one just to the Bottom Right of dat big lake. :)

Jeff

You have to place your own trees using the members map.  Only members that have done so show up.  :)

Dress appropriately, WM.  A grody pair of sweatpants and some old wore-out sneakers should serve to keep ya outta the mall. ;D

It's like Don K said, we have a little time on our hands up here due to a couple inches of freezing sleeze. This was five minutes ago. It wouldn't be so bad it it wasn't April.

Go barefoot and chew on a straw.  That usually tends to get the women to leave you at home.  They will buy shoes and bring them home to you though. :D

Yep!  The Southeast is well represented here.  If it weren't for us, those guys up there wouldn't know what to do with a pine tree.

I've heard of a lot of folks that think it's strange up north.  I went way up  to North Carolina one time and they arent so different. :)

Its not bad here right now, the 10 inches of snow we got mid week is going away, but a little to slow for me.
