Title: Furby is on a road trip
Post by: Cedarman on April 23, 2005, 09:04:54 AM
Furby pulled in here midday Friday. Do you think he wanted to miss your weather in Mi.  Gave him the nickel tour of the mill and showed him my logging tractor and winch.  Showed him the 4 poster sawing shed with roof falling in that was our humble beginning.
We had a good chat for several hours. Found out he is a Survivor fan. We agreed that to get on the show you cant have any survivor skills. At least from our perspective.

I thoroughly enjoyed the visit from an intelligent young man on a mission.
Kirk A, I hear he is headed your way.

Furby, have fun on your road trip.

Quarter to 4 Furby calls, he is an hour out and looking for directions. Got him squared away on the directions and waited, and waited, and waited, and...........well let just say he got hammered in the thunderstorm that just missed us.  Took him two hours to cover that hour trip.

I was just wrapping up a broken blade when he pulled in.  Gave him the tour of the Wood Supply Shed ;D, the log piles, and the house & barn.  Lots of history to share but not a lot of time.  Cedarman is right, Furby is on a mission!

Hope the trip goes better though.  He smacked one of those corn fed deer south of Indy and pretty much wiped out the front right quarter panel and bumper.  Still drivable but definatly made a mess.

We went to dinner and then Furby got on his way to Bro Nobles place.  He was hoping to get there by morning, which shouldnt be a problem.

Stay tuned for Furby and his post on how I explained tooth angle to one of our helpers last night at dinner.  You will get a kick out of it.

 :( :( :( NO DEER :( :( :(

He said he looked for it but couldnt find it.  He smacked the back end of so chances are it broke its back legs and since the front didnt get hit they can go quite a ways on those two front legs.

Rest assured, had he brought it, we would have butchered it up!

Furby didnt have a camera with him.  Just prior to him getting here we loaded a realy squiraly ash log on the mill.  Wouldn't you know it, after the first cut, I turned the log and it had just enought hight and momentam to crawl right over the dog and fall off the other side of the mill.  I told Chad, my helper we have got to get that log back on the mill NOW.   The last thing I needed was Furby to pull in and see that ;D

Richard you need to change the title of this thread to "All Points Bulletin for AKA Furby"

Seems he has not showed up at Bro. Nobles place yet and that is only about 6 hours from my place.  He left my place around 7:30 last night.

ANY ONE HEARD FROM FURBY!

I'm here for just a second as I have slipped in on a connection.
Spent today trying to find Noble and Arky, drove right past Noble's place, and I'm sure I was within a mile of Arky's but couldn't find them.
Just spoke with Noble and will see him on Sunday, but still trying to get ahold of Arky!
Oh, Arkyyyyyyy........

That makes me feel pretty down when my neighbors tell Furby they don't know me :(--------I think he was asking a little to far up the road :)

We used to have an old lady who joined us.  She wasn't just right in the head and was always getting irritated with me.  When friends came to visit they would often ask her directions as she lived at a nearby bridge and I lived off the road a little way.  If she was down on me she would either tell them that she never heard of me or that I died a while back.  That caused me and my friends some aggrivation :D :D

Now as far as finding Arky,  I went down there with Jeff and Tammy one time and we had a hard time finding his place and we were following him ;)

Hope the Furby makes it here tomorrow cause I'm looking forward to his visit. :)

PS.  If you ever do get down this a way it'd be just fine if you wanted to spend a few days or a few weeks.   We'll have fun.  Heck, I'll teach you how to roof and won't even charge you nothing for it!  :)

Just can't spare the 5+ hours each way right now. :(

Gonna try and stay on long enough to answer some of the other posts.

First off, getting out of the car at Cedarman's mill was AWESOME!
The smell of that cedar was soooooo good and I've never seen so many cedar logs in one place before. :o
Nickle tour ??? Was more like the $20 gold piece tour from my point of view!
Cedarman has some real interesting projects he's involved in.  8)

Kirk really does have a shed load of lumber, should be more then enough for his up coming building.
I'm really sorry I didn't get there sooner as I would have REALLY liked to have gotten a pic of Kirk and Chad trying to "play" with that log. ;D
The highlight of the visit was Kirk explaining to Chad what hook angle is by demonstrating with a french fry! ;D
I'm SUPER sorry I don't have a pic of that! :D

Kirk, I made it about an hour down I-70 before the battery in the truck went on strike. :-\
Had to jump it a couple of times and got a new one Sat morning.
Let's see what else I can mess up, eh ? ;D

Thanks for taking the time fellows! 8) 8) 8)

Onward...........................I hope! :D

Any chance that battery was in the front rigth quarter panel, where you smacked the deer? Sometimes a good jolt will destroy a battery.

Wish it would have happen while you were here.  I had a spare in the garage you could have had.

Drive safe!

Hey Furby, remember that great big pile of Ash logs?  THERE ALL GONE!  Finsished them today 8)

I can't believe you took all those photos while you were supposed to be driving, AND the taking of them made you veer onto the WRONG side of the road...   :o

Noble,  We're kinda sad to see them move from MI, again, but they will be moving in June.  They are house hunting in Willard.  Told my BIL to start boat shopping when he gets situated.  They will be about 20 mi. from Stockton Lake.

Don,t know when we'll get down there but we will definately look you up when we do.

Furby stopped by for a few hours yesturday, he just missed a storm that built up over head and started producing hail just east of me prior to showing up.

Got to set around and talk about all kinds of things, enjoyed the visit.  Got the opprotunity to meet someone face to face from the forestry forum.

Furby is welcome to stop by again anytime he is in the area, and this also goes out to anyone on the forestry forum.

He was heading to Stillwater either late last night or early this morning.  He left my place about 9:30 PM, had a great visit, he is a heck of a great person.

Furby be careful driving, notice you kept talking about all the trees you seen while driving, which tells me your eyes are not on the road.

He did mention he was heading up your direction.

Post by: ARKANSAWYER on April 26, 2005, 10:35:15 PM
Furby calls Sat afternoon and says he is 20 miles out.  Leaves no phone number so I waits.  I get up and go to the mill and come back and check but he called and still left no number.  This goes on till dark.  :'(  Now I am sad.  Instead he heads off to Bro. Nobles.
But this brings up a good point.  You can not sneak up on an ARKANSAWYER.  My house is easy to find like morel mushrooms.  Once you learn to spot it, there is no problem.   You can follow Bibbymans map but the first time he came he had to stop and ask a guy with Texas tags where I lived.  The guy told him to just follow him.   I live in the woods.
Also if you stop with out of state tags and ask for a local you may not get a truthful reply.  We tend to shy away from inviting trouble to our own.  Now since Bibbyman looks like a ZZ Top kind of dude they just led him to the drive way.  Now Furby on the other hand there is no telling what they would tell him.   If you have ever seen the movie "Deliverance" you will know not to be poking around in these woods uninvited like.
I sure missed out on this deal.

BEWARE

The man called Furby has left Kansas.
He pulled out of Ptotection, Ks. at 7 PM this Wednesday.
Rumor has it he may visit Bibbyman and Pro Sawyer Mary tomorrow.

We had a good time showing him around.
Took him to Oklahoma and showed him a cedar or two.
What a nice young man and a great ambasador for the Forestry Forum.

Good Luck Furby, according to another thread, the Bibbyman is in hiding.

Not even sure where to start, so I'll have to add things in when I get home.
I also have a few pics to put up, but will wait until I get home for them as well.

Yep Kirk, same corner! The battery may not have been totally shot after all, but it has been replaced and that's what matters. ;)

tnlogger, I spent a good while following one of them CFI trucks around. The driver couldn't/wouldn't tell what was in it or where he was heading.  :-\
I'll GLADLY do a world wide tour! Just find me someone to foot the bill, will ya ???

Bibby, I wish it was that easy to find. :-[

Arky, I KNOW atleast one lady I spoke with was not telling the truth about not knowing who you were, her face told the story. ;)

Had a really cool time at Bro_Nobles'. I even got to help/tag along as he brought the cows in, a first for me.

GF has gone all out on his mill, and I can honestly say that if I had to choose between a WM and a mill like his, I'd be leaning real heavy towards his! He has done one heck of a job putting that thing together!

Aaron (Cedarmans son) was very helpful and went out of his way to show me around and explain things.

Haytrader has really gone out there for me, and we had lots of fun climbing around the canyons and looking at cedars! I was not real sure he knew what he was talking about at first, but I now know that he knows EXACTLY what he is talking about! :D

Asy, I've seen cottonwoods big enough to cut a 4x8 sheet out of! ;D

OWW, there was a problem with your truck....................they got the color wrong, and they put the wrong body on it. :'( I'll be leaving it in your drive on the way back through, when you take it in to have the front end fixed, make sure they put a pickup bed on it! Don't have a clue as to how they could possibly screw up so bad as to put an Explorer body on what was supposed to be a pickup truck!  ;D

Jeff, do I get a pay increase with the "mascot" title ???

Furby, you are amazing!
I thought you might try to snag my truck and take it out to Pender's place so I asked them to disguise it real good.  You managed to get it anyway  :o :D :D :D

Jeff, I think the Furbmeister should get at least a 20% increase, what with the ambassador and deer thinning duties he has picked up and all  ;)

I'm home!

Driveway to driveway:
3,717 total miles
8 days 2 hours and 23 minutes

FF members: 8

7 states and managed to knock 2 states off my "to visit" list. 8)

DanG Norm, if I'd a known ya wanted a turkey......
Close call with a cat, a dog, a possum, many ringnecks, and a cow........ooops, no turkey. :-\

That must have been a real pain Noble. :( It wasn't the fence we blocked up was it? Did that root knock that post out again? ;) :D

Did indeed meet up with Mule_Man and his son. He wasn't kidding about that cedar log, he just left out how nice of a log it was! WOW! :o
Mule_Man has been doing things right, he's got all the right tools for the job. A nice mill, a building to cut in, equipment for moving logs, and even some LogRite Tools!  ;D

Managed to find Norm and Patty's place, Norm's directions were take a right and it dead ends three blocks down at a cedar sided ranch. Did just that, only three blocks was more like 200 yards and I almost drove off the end of the road! :D Got to meet the fat horse! Was a little unsure about getting too close, but since I didn't have the chicken suit, Becky was just a doll! BIG, but a doll! ;D

I'll get a couple pics up here later today.

Furby

You didn't happen to see this on your trip did you?

Amish Carriage

While driving in Pennsylvania, a family caught up to an Amish
carriage. The owner of the carriage obviously had a sense of humor,
because attached to the back of the carriage was a hand printed
sign... "Energy efficient vehicle: Runs on oats and grass. Caution: Do
Not step in exhaust."

Yep, she stopped to the new Meijer store for some food.
They have these cards with a barcode on them in a bowl. You take one and run it through the scanner to see if you won.
I was there a couple hours earlier and didn't win. :'(
She gets any car she wants up to $25k.
The corporate headquarters were supposed to call her today........they didn't. ::)

Bad news is my Dad lost his job yet again on Friday..............and blew the engine in his car on Friday or Saturday. :-\ ::)
Far as I know, he has blown the engine in every car he has own except a couple. One or two he totalled out before he could blow the engine, and another one got hit by a falling tree branch while it was up for sale. The insurance totaled it and my brother did a buy back real cheap (cheap car), he blew the engine a short time later. I'm sure the damage was already done to the engine before my brother got it though. >:(

Ernie,
I did see several Amish Carriages but none with that sign.
It sounds pretty funny. :D

Teri, the west half is flat.
Furby took that pic after he left here headed east on HYWY 160 about 12 miles west of Medicine Lodge, Ks.
It is ironic that Furby took that pic as the guy that used to own the land with the barns had a Mobile Deminsion saw and sawmills in Ks. aren't that common, at least out here on the flat.......

OK..

I'll admit to utter confusion...

What is going on with the trucks in this thread??? I don't understand.

Best I can figure is that every place Furby went he took their truck, hit a deer and left the truck at the next forumite's farm and went on in their truck, also in search of deer...

Did I get it right???

It really is a deep forest green with black undercoat.  It looks blue due to the reflection of the beautiful sky.  As you can see the imagined journeys have not left any damage or wear.  Furby, I owe you some time behind the wheel the next time I see you. :)

Nice truck!   :)  Do you have a bedliner on it?
I know you'll enjoy it, and just remember the first scratch is the deepest, after that you'll relax.   :D

Roxie, I don't think I am going to put a bed liner in it.  At some point in the future the box will become a flat bed I'm thinking.

Hope them Fords have thicker metal in the beds than the new GM's.  Thought about a spray in liner on my new truck, but thinking about a drop in so that plastic will add some strength to the metal :D  Now thats a winning concept.

OWW,

Bee you tea full truck.
Is it diesel?
Do you need a stump to get in?

:D  :D

Watch out if Furby comes down to drive it.
I took him up and down some pretty steep stuff when he was here (in my old truck) and I saw a gleam in his eyes.
One place we went off of, you couldn't see the ground in front of us. I can't remember what he said and if I did, don't think I could say it here.

;)

Furby, we will get together somewhere - at the piggy roast if no where else.  When you were visiting Cedarman you probably came down SR37.  I am just a couple of miles off 37 north of Bloomington.  note to myself; need to go visit Cedarman.

HT, yes it is a 6.0 Powerstroke diesel.  Man, what power!  It is quite the feeling to see the ground in front of you going downhill.  What I hate is when you see ground, sky, ground, sky, etc  :D

I hit the deer in Martinsville, and spent the night in Bloomington. :-\
Missed ya by this much! Trust me...........we will get together sooner or later..........I wanna drive that truck!!! ;D

Oh yeah, the estimate for the truck came in a little over $1400 bucks!
Almost feel like driving down and showing it to that cop that though it was well under a grand in damages! ;D
