any way to fix a starter solinoid on a kohler 15 horse? Guess I probably should just replace it. LeeB

They burn inside and start to stick.  Not worth opening them up.  I've never gotten one back together again anyway.  I like to tear stuff apart.

Hit it with a hammer and you might get it to work a few more times but other then that chuck it and get a new one. When they stick that's it for them!

Had a fellow coming this morning with some pecan logs to be milled, so I rigged a toggle switch across the solenoid. Worked ok. Battery was dead so I jumped it off thinking it would charge. Fellow was late so I went to the parts store and got some stuff to work on my tractor and got a new solenoid too. Great or so I thought, battery still dead. No problem, I'll just use the pull start. Starts easy enough. Kill it to flip the log and break the rope trying to restart. Jump it off again. Sawing fine, Not for long. Clutch won't work without the battery. apparently the alternator can't put out enough to run it. Off to the parts store for a battery. Oh well, at least it was time for lunch. Six logs,$100. Battery and solenoid, $45. New box of blades, $160. Profit, ? LeeB >:(

Got to do a show for the local chamber of commerce in a couple of weeks so all this neded doing anyway. Hope fully it will be a good way to drum up a little work. Not too much though as I just do a little now and then to pay for such as today's misshaps and dinner out now and then. LeeB :)

I don't anything about your solenoid but I have rebuilt a lot of solenoids on diesel engine starters. Some you can take apart and reverse the contact plate so there is a new contact surface. You can also file the contact bolts or replace them. Yours is probably smaller, but you still might be able to fix it.

Too late. It's somewhere in the sawdust pile now. Even as tight wadded as I am, $10 was way too cheap to mess with it. Thanks anyway. LeeB

That must be a sealed type if it is only $10. I wouldn't mess with it either.
