I may not be at the right site or in the right forum, but I'll ask my question.

I'm putting ponderosa pine through a 4 head Smithway moulder, and the moulder is raising the grain (cutting soft grain out).  The blades are brand new, and the wood is not wet or green.

Anyone know what might be the issue or have a fix for this?

Thanks,
Jim Kelly

There are knife edge angles for hardwoods and then different ones for softwoods.

Check with the knife supplier to see what you have.

Also check the pressure rollers. You may be compressing the late wood with the roller, cutting the wood and seeing the late wood spring back after the cut. Just a possibility.
