Wow, 35-40 an acre is a lot for balsam.

The volume is there where the wood is still standing but we are not merchandizing all the pulpwood.  Those markets are very poor this year.

How has the machine been working for you Ken?

For the most part the Deere harvester has been good to me although there are only 2350 hours on the clock.   My warranty expired a couple of days ago so time will tell.  The Timberjack forwarder with 37000+ hours has been a different story lately.  Sure wish I could justify a new one.

No kidding! We have a couple that are up around 20,000 hours, but that doesn't even compare ;)

My harvester has 2 million feet on it at 1600 hours.  Forwarder probably travels 4 x the distance of a harvester.  So it should have an average speed of around 1 mph.   37000 miles..

Neighbors aren't to thrilled.  ;) stumping right up to the road.

Log prices are still way down.

Put the skid roads in on a 60acre job, shipped a little wood, waiting on log prices to come back before I ship anymore off this one. Have more logs to ship than I know what to do with, just not giving them away.

Yeah I wish I had more like it but it's mostly firewood and small logs on this lot. Nice looking stuff your cutting! With that yard loader you can sure pile up a lot of wood in a small spot!

Put that pile up in 1 day, not bad all by myself with a small cable and a 30-45min skid. Been doing the 7am till very dark thing every day. About 300+ cord ahead on FW right now, would like another 300 sitting here by Nov. Doing 2lds of fw and a few good logs every day, on 15-20gal of fuel, can't beat that.

when you say prices are down , if you can say what down price is from what you were getting , Here only hard maple and red oak are down just abit at the one mill and the other mill the price never changed , soft maple is up alot here , cherry is up as well and white ash . Pine is down but never is up during the summer time here

Mills here are basically  refusing RO, or only want the best and if you can get 500 a mbdft your doing good. HM is down on the lower grade, I was 325 for #3-#4 past fall, now it's 200-225. Ash is holding but the markets flooded. Shipped a load the other day and averaged 560 per mbdft, with some basswood and bumpy ash mixed in, so it wasn't to bad. I've got close to 1mil ft to cut within 20 miles of home, and a lot of its nice stuff, so if I'm taking a 2-300 per mbft beating that adds up after a while. We either saw the low grade our selves or firewood it, a lot of guys have pulled out and I'm sitting back watching my piles grow, I hope it snows and snows this yr and I sell every stick I have. Someone's going to Boonville to see about a new processor, might be circle saw here soon hopefully.

barge monkey is every thing down for you? poplar and white oak are still hot here, red oak only went down about 5%, tie logs down about 40 dollars a thousand. pine is steady but they had the gall to complain today........11 trees, 4700ft. they getting a pile in the yard, ya know how that goes.

The couple guys on here up by Glens falls can tell you better, my pulp man was down the other day and said things are BAD up there. I'm seeing 20-30% less in a log check. Yeah they are paying for the nice stuff, but it's not like it was, being more picky. Unless it's real nice tulip I won't even cut it. RO here is just bad, FW anything over a #1. I only ship the nicer ash, we keep enough to feed our mill for stakes. Haven't had much good hemlock lately, and pulp is no money maker.

He holds about 15cord, and I don't remember the tonnage. I see about 750-800 a ld after trucking. It isn't a lot figuring the work but covers my fuel. We have a lot of hemlock with shake, so we keep the good and pulp the bad, you would have to do 2-3lds a day to survive. I feel bad for the guys humping lds out just trying to break even, unless your on good wood right now I think things are tough, especially  if you have 2-5guys and big payments.  He figures he will truck another 6-12 months then fully retire, I want my stickers on the door, that is a sweet truck and pup and ideal for what I'm doing. My sterling lacks the grunt for a pup trailer, and a log trailer isn't handy for me on most jobs.
