Pete, this time of the year a small wood stove in the house is ideal light it in the evening and let it go out during the day.I cheated and put a gas log in my old Defiant for this weather, outside has been shut down for a wile now.Frank C.

Ice in the backyard water pail three mornings running. I had a cottager with an exposed waterline tell me he had to wait till the afternoon to pump water for the past two days.

No freezing water here but low 30s at night.  Build a fire late evening after the passive solar gives out, just enough to maintain 72* and have hot water for showers in the morning.  I load it light, fire out or nearly out most mornings as the sun takes over this time of year and start another fire next evening.  Don't know how much longer I'll do that but hate to hear that oil boiler kick on.

More like late Spring here with our temps. It was 87 yesterday and supposed to get hotter today.

I burn 365 days a year. Do occasionally let the fire go out in the summer to clean the ashes out and give the stove a small break.  :D

Chevytahoe,
I am thinking of burning year round as well, but my wife is opposed as the furnace is quite near the house by our deck which we use a lot in the summer.
I have been watching the burn lately from our hot tub on the deck to see if smoke seems to be an issue. So far it is not.
We use the tub year round and very rarely the smoke is caught by a downdraft and hits us when we are relaxing. Not a major problem.
