Hi All,

I have a used Dolmar 6400 I am cleaning up.  In opening the chain brake part of the saw I found a sort of U shaped piece near the sping and cam mechanism of the chain brake.  In the documentation it lists it as a sponge and when I disasembled it it was full of what appeared to be bar oil and grit.

I was wondering what function this serves?

Does it keep the chain break oiled?

Does it automatically get oil from the bar?

Wondering if anyone knows what the real function of this is.

Thanks,
Tom

Kevin

There is a piece of foam in there but it is likely there to collect dirt and protect the workings of the brake mechanism.
The oil would be excess from the pump that worked it's way in there.
The brake shouldn't have oil.

Thanks Kevin,

I wasn't sure what it was for but what you say makes sense.  At first I thought it was some odd pre air filter but keeping the chain breake free from misc. pieces in the saw makes sense.

Thanks again for the info.

Tom
