Hello everyone.....

One of the fellows I run around with is looking for a lumber broker / buyer for grade wood.  He is logging a lot of red oak that is very nice.  We are located  in Mid State Missouri if that matters.  Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Wes

Have you checked with Hibner there in Chillicothe?  You might check with Missouri Pacific too.  You can search for them to get a number.

Wes, I noticed that you custom sawing.  I am located down in Kearney.  We process firewood and produce landscape mulch.  I get people from time to time that call looking for somewhere to get a few logs sawn.  They are usually woodworkers that want to use it for projects.  If that is something that you do, let me know and I can pass your name along.  If you could send me your number too that would be great.   Steve

We live in mid-Missouri and, as far as I know, there are no brokers in this area.  There are a couple of companies that buy oak lumber east and west of Jefferson City.  But I suspect they have all the supply they want and need.

You could try looking through the listings on the Missouri Forest Products Association web site.

One major problem your friend will soon face is that unless you have an established market relationship with a broker, you'll not likely get them to buy from you.  When the market crashed a few years back, many, if not all of the brokers that staid in business cut off some mills and put quotas on the rest.  We still are allocated only so much we can bring in each month.  The price of grade oak keeps creeping down.

Yeah Bibbyman, the price on grade red oak is low enough I can make firewood out of it and just about come out equal if not ahead of log price.

Thanks everyone .....

I am running into quotas and low prices.  To me it does not seem worth it.
I had a logger around Sedalia ask me if I was interested in sawing his grade for him also.  I can buy it cost effectively but have no where to go with it, so I guess i will decline.
