That Thar shore is purdy wood!

Great job!  Thanks for taking the time to picture and post, or picture the posts....

Years ago when I did the business plan for another group, the challenge was to develop enough income from the smaller cull trees to meet cash flow demands to keep going and see the rewards from the larger heartwood, bigger trees. Sounds like you are there.

when i started selling my thinnings in 2014 hindu buyers payed 90$/m3 for small diam teak wood, 13cm diam and up. that was a pretty good price for such small young wood. since 2019 the prices where reduced to half and it's not profitable to harvest such small trees.

good thing is in that time period i passed the small diam logs because of the thinnings i did. now i'm at the third thinning and my trees are 8-14" diam. the small end of the log gives me 3 boards, 1x4, which i sell cheap. still alot better than sell it round.

the plan always was to have some kind of roller band for the infeed of the sawmill, nothing fancy, just manual.
was looking at some used woodworking equipment a guy has stored and these roller tables caught my eye, after some negotiating i bought twice as much as i needed, 8x 3m section, for 430$. the old guy is sitting on 1 Million $ worth of wood woorking machines, electric motors, al kind of gismos, which nobody will buy in Costa Rica and he wouldn't sell me the 20 year old outside stored rollertables for 350$, what i offered.
(he has a maybe 20year old weining 8axle planer moulder there, manual, before electronics, think he wants 50k for it, you need a industrial 3phase connection for that beast)

still think i got them for a good price, every roller turns freely

some progress on the framing front. the ironwood posts, actually pretty workable wood for being 1250kg/m3, that's 78 lb/ft3!!

i'm sure that wood will pop some colors after oiling it!

Nice score on the new junk.  I collect those as well. Americans usually call them gravity conveyors.

Is there a good market for yacht and sailboat decking? I would think that would sell at a premium.
Under bark there's boards and beams, somewhere in between.

there is a market for yacht teak but they want old grown teak, not plantation 20year old wood.

Not much left of the old teak trees (just in Myanmar, i heard) and it's ridiculously expensive

8 axle planer must be a beast indeed! Over here you can purchase old 4, 5 or at most 6 axle planers for reasonable prices. 4 axle moulders goes around 5 k in euros I guess.
There is a 8 axle moulder for sale somewhere in the netherlands with a total power of 120 kW  :o 18.5 kW and 11 kw axles. That would clean out most generator exhausts I think

WOW this is crazy! Joinery looks great, and if you're gonna build something outdoors out of nice lumber, might as well make it look awesome! Can't say I'm not jealous lol

Working on the rafters, my shop is really to small for such pieces. they are 2x6, 4.8m long (16')

when your shop is too small and it rains all day and you need to plan wood the whole day, need to improvise.
These are the nailstrips, where the tin gets attached (i don't know the word in english)

For those who are interested in the 8 axle moulder i saw at the place where i bought the gravity conveyors

That is a beast of a moulder!! Oh, and nailstrips works just fine for those pieces. I don't think we've ever been able to agree on what to call them in English anyways🤷‍♂️😊

Sorry Rob, there's no such thing as too many rollers ;D.

Sometimes it is easier to bring the tool to the beam. I made this 20 years ago to mount my drill press head on for drilling out mortices very handy but haven't used it since.

Talking about selfmade gismos.
Was funny today, Saturday, was just doing little work, few hours.
yesterday i planed some rafters to 2", so this morning i needed to plane them to 6", so standing up planning. My jointer is way too small for 5m pieces and the shop also.
so i started to hand plane the cant because off the sawmill they weren't exactly square, what a pain, after doing one side and putting it thru the big planer the rafters went left and right and everywhere but not nicely squared.
so i took a step back and thought for some seconds, there has to be a better way!
and then it stroked me, after 20min i had the device armed and it works like a charm!
Sometimes i'm freaking awesome!!!! that idea made my day

perfectly squared rafters!

Teakwood, your planer is not too small, but you need roller stands.  ;D

Had top weather today, well, it was way too hot but at least it was dry. Was a very hard day (11.5hours of work by 34 degrees Celsius, had a headache after mid day but still needed to push forward, drank lots of fluids. I'm worn out now but the progress is showable.

Of course exactly today the excavator stopped running after we put the first piece up. First i thought diesel and changed all filters and looked for air in the system. after 2h i found out that the fuel shut off solenoid valve does not work in the normal working position, just when the key was turned to start. so the push coil is ok but the hold coil is defective. so i took it out and now have to shut off the machine manually at the injection pump, but the excavator worked and that saved the day.

My worker is doing the holes for the ironwood posts, 1m deep

would be impossible without the excavator

we filled them up again with dirt and compressed it real good

I had to stop because my head would have exploded
Hope the weather holds!

I'm so proud, it turned out almost perfect, every measurement was spot on, didn't had to mac guyver  at nothing!!
