Maybe Sugar Maple (Hard Maple).

If it's in a yard, I would lean toward Norway maple.

  I'm thinking willow oak or water oak. Leaves would help.

There's bark of two different trees there. The top log is different than the bottom log bark. The piece in question is a but cut off and the bottom pic is of the but of a second log, can see the sawed hinge. I don't see any big rays at all in the sawed off but. Perhaps they are there, but my eyes ain't see'n them. Look like diffuse porous wood.
