There's bark of two different trees there. The top log is different than the bottom log bark. The piece in question is a but cut off and the bottom pic is of the but of a second log, can see the sawed hinge. I don't see any big rays at all in the sawed off but. Perhaps they are there, but my eyes ain't see'n them. Look like diffuse porous wood.
