Title: A Dreaming Wannabe
Post by: Dustin on February 05, 2012, 12:24:27 PM
Hi everyone! I am finally putting my first post up after creeping on here for awhile. I would like to buy a WM someday to saw my own logs and possibly be a mobile sawyer. I don't have any sawing knowledge or equipment as of yet but I hope to in the next couple of years. Until that day comes, I am just soaking all the knowledge up I can from you guys. I would like to thank each one of you for sharing your experiences and pictures on the forum.  My wife says I'm addicted to this site, and shes probably right but I'm learning something new everyday.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum, Dustin.  At one time each of us were where you are.  You are wise to read, study, and learn.  If there is a portable sawyer close to you, make a friend and a visit.   :)

Wecome wannasaw. You are at the right place to learn and make some good company. MM is right to check around and find yourself a sawyer and belly up to him and tell him how you would appreciate some help. I bet he will. Good luck. bg

Welcome Dustin.
This site is very addictive! I have the sawmill fever bad also. I have had it for years.
If everthing go's right I will have one this spring. I hope your wife is behind your dream like mine. Mine is tired of my dreaming and wants it to be a reality.
Good luck on your reading and studying on this site.
WARNING!    Your dreaming will only get worse!

Welcome Dustin.  It is addictive, spent some time on here and remembered running around with my dad buying timber for Midwest Walnut and now I've got a LT40 and looking to build a timberframe home.   :D  :D

Hey Dustin, Welcome aboard! It's not the bug you need to worry about, just wait until you get sawdust in your blood, then you'll really be hooked. You won't find a better bunch of guys and gals, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Dustin, welcome to the forum. It's good to have time. Lots of shows out there to see the mills in action. I only saw for me,never thought about sawing for others. Too busy with my own projects, not sawing projects either, too help others.

Thanks for all the kind words.  I got bit by the sawdust bug back in high school when I started working construction part-time.  I'm still working part-time for the same company, when I have time off from the full time job.  I dabble a little bit in woodworking when I have any free time.  :D  There is a couple different guys that live about an hr from me that I'm trying to let me help out a little bit.  Kinda the wrong season to be trying to find time to help someone saw outside in the snow.

Welcome Dustin. Been doing the same thing for along time. ;D
I have a friend in Wv with a lt40 super that I get to visit sometimes
and hoping to get to meet Lud who lives close by.But being a truck
driver on the extra board I don't get much time to do anything.
Thank goodness for the FF app on the smartphone :)

Welcome Dustin. You are at the right place. Will you have your own log supply, or how is that side of your equation balanced?

Dustin, it all starts with a dream.  I had a similar dream a few years back and the fine folks on this forum offered some wonderful help and advice.

Check it out here: https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/topic,1400.msg747261.html#msg747261

Welcome and good luck!  8)

you've come to the right spot!  The forum here is better than college.  The professors here talk to you because they truly want to help people like you, and me.  I've learned just about everrything that I know about milling either from the forum here, or from people that I've met on the forum and later met in person.  I don't know much yet, but i have been able to produce some nice lumber with their advice.  You will never find better quality instruction from better people anywhere else.  I can't hardly comunicate how gratefull I am for all of the great info that I've learned here.
