Bad Log Turned Good

I got this crooked log a while back and just recently cut it. When I opened it up I found it was split all the way down the 9 foot length. I figured I wouldn't get many boards out of it so I decided to cut a three inch slab out and make a bench out of it. Here are the pics. I am going to use 4 stumps with 4, 4 inch dowls each for the base. I still ended up getting 35 useable BF out of it.

What species?  I assume that the bow ties are walnut.
