Though I would share this with yall...this was a 30" "highly valuable walnut" crotch that I was planning on getting some Christmas gifts out of. But after 27 nails and a rake I decided it was better suited for the wood stove.

I'll keep that picture in mind for whenever a customer tells me "there's nothing in that tree"
Ya that had some hardware in it. well maybe you can get that rake out and it will still be good. I think that is the only value in that crotch. :D
That there is ridiculous! They don't make rakes like that anymore.
Silly Boy. The rake was added so that you could clean up the sawdust after you finished sawing.
So that's where that DanG rake went...
I've been looking all over!!!
Herb
Almost made it through one of the teeth. :(
There is a CHristmas gift there. its called a rustic walnut wine glass rack. havent you ever seen a rake head hung up with wine glasses in the tines? it would be a one of a kind, and highly valuabe.
If you get it into your wood stove, will this be the best ever definition of "getting raked through the coals?" :D :D All the best, Rob.

After pulling nails out of it for what seemed like forever, I decided to cut a kerf with the skill saw and split it open with a wedge to investigate further.
I think I will try and remove the rake so I can return it to Home Depot... :D

I doubt home depot will take it back because that damage to the teeth is not from normal use.
:o What is not normal about sawmilling?? ??? :P

I'm not sure exactly what is abnormal about sawmilling but I'm pretty sure that anyone that might have made a wrong turn and happened upon the sycamore project would have taken one look at all of us and known that something wasn't quite right.
I think he has the champion iron in a log find, that must be worth some thing! 8)
I've never seen a walnut handle before they used to be ash or oak..... :D
If you have taken out 27 nails and a rake you might as well keep sawing now . Just can't be anymore surprises.
Stop for sure if you find an arm bone in there

........because it may have a watch on it. :)
Exactly. :D
I'm going to lean the rake on this tree so no one steps on it and hurts themselves. :D

Yup firewood that is! At least you can rake then coals out when finished. That's an all-in-one package deal.
Wow thats amazing, I see a cool coat rack for the shop with your adventure there.

Actually not a bad idea Dan. :)
That's the fun you have when you don't have a metal detector ;D

That thing has some teeth and it looks like it bit back :o
OK....so I pondered and pondered before I threw this into the burn pile and did manage to get a couple of gifts out of it.

Merry Christmas everyone!!
Very nice
Those look highly valuable. ;D
I like how you incorporated the tines from the rake into the finished piece. They shined up nice.
Very nicely done, Ray.
What do you put in them?

What do you put in them?
Liquid soap or lotion....they work great and easy to make!!
50 years ago.....
Father: Did you put the rake back in the garage?
Son: WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS HASSLING ME!!!!!
I thought it would've made a neat looking mantle with the embedded rake.
