My brother and I cut 50 spruce trees, Alberta Peace River area, in February, completed the milling in October. Several of the trees had active wood beetles. We cut out most of the beetles and larva. Will the winter kill the larva? Will the stack of completed beams be new material for the larva or beetles to eat next year? Thanks

My understanding is the beetles need the cambium layer (just under the bark) to set up shop.  They bore into the wood so they have a place to turn into adults.  So, no bark, no bugs.  As far as killing them over the winter freeze, I don't know, but I doubt it.  They've been living in the woods for eons without winter heat :D so I doubt a cut timber would make any difference.
