I learned that the Thames, which looks quite muddy, is actually fairly clean.  The muddy color comes from the tidal nature of it's flow.  They say it is home to over 100 species of fish.

With that said, I watched a boat drift with the tide tonight, fishing it's way toward the sea.  I wondered what was happening out there.  Felt that fisherman's pull toward the water.  Not this trip.

I saw syncronized springboard diving tonight.  Maybe to some, it sounds like a yawner, but it was a great event.  The Chinese won so handily, it was only a battle for Silver and Bronze.  The USA took third.  I enjoyed this more than I expected.  The fans from Great Britain are everywhere.  They are loud and supportive in a non-obnoxious way.  You've gotta love that hometown spirit!  Mens basketball tomorrow.

Wonder if the Forestry Forum hat on Doc's head is the first Forestry Forum hat to be worn in London? ???

Probably not. I have an artist friend in England that has had a hat for 10 years. He used to where it all over. I don't know for a fact that he wore it in London, but chances are he might have.

I was gonna be an olympian, but I'm not big enough, fast enough, or strong enough.  I'm fairly lazy, too. ::)

I don't know why, but I've always liked watching table tennis. :D  As fast as we think that little ball is moving, it's all in super slow motion in their heads. :D
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

Didn't there use to be an OLYMPIC BEER? This event would probably suit most of us.  :D

One of the many things I've come to love about London is that there is minimal tipping.  Restaurants add an "optional" 12.5% to your bill as a service charge.  We did witness one customer ask to have it decreased, so you can haggle if you think your service has been poor.  For taxis, just round up to the closest pound.  However, after you get into a cab and tell the driver where you're going, ask for the price right then.  Many local cabs have no meter, so you can get sticker shock when you arrive at your destination if a price has not been previously discussed.

Men's basketball late this evening.

Don't they still make Olympia beer out in Washington state?

Doc, looks and sounds like a fun time, even if no fishing.  Has anyone (there) commented on your FF hat?

Well, yes and no, fishpharmer.....

My hat may seem a little out of it's neighborhood over here, but you should see the crazy outfits people dress in to attend these events.  I've seen 3-piece sequin Union Jack suits, the statue of Liberty, and some of the wildest colored and spiked wigs you can imagine.  So, except for a guy in line for lunch, no one has commented, because, compared to others, I am quite tame.   I am excluding, however, my wife and children who think that pictures of me in the FF hat at the Olympics just verifies my seat on the crazy train.

Basketball tonight.  US men blasted Nigeria in what could not be called a game.  Also saw GB lose by 1 point to Spain.  Good time.  I may have a ticket for track cycling tomorrow, in addition to track and field in the evening.

This one has been doing the rounds on social media here.

Anyone that wins any medal is pretty much a National Hero here, and a chance to poke some fun at the Aussies.

Don't they still make Olympia beer out in Washington state?

Sadly,no.

Olympia Beer was a very popular regional brand in the Pacific Northwest for half of a century. It eventually expanded nationwide, repositioned as a low-price lager. During the 1970s, Olympia acquired Hamm's and Lone Star. Olympia Brewing also produced Buckhorn Beer which had previously been a product of the Lone Star Brewing Company. The beer declined increasingly in sales when the president of the brewery was caught engaging in a homosexual act, and was therefore publicly outed in the early 1980s. The Schmidt family, which owned and operated the brewery and company, elected to sell the company in 1982. Olympia was subsequently purchased by G. Heileman Brewing Company in 1983. G. Heileman Brewing Company was sold to Stroh Brewery Company in 1996. In 1999, Pabst Brewing Company bought most of the Stroh Brewery Company brands including Olympia Beer.

Pabst still owns the Olympia label, and beer marketed under the Olympia Beer name continues to be manufactured by MillerCoors at a plant in Irwindale, California.

PS.  Have you tried the beer in London?
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Yep, tried several different ales and bitters in the pubs.  I am actually getting used to drinking their beer warm!  Most pubs offer a nice selection of international beers that are cold on tap.  The classic British ales are kept in kegs in the cellar, and use a long-handle non-pressurized pump system to pull them up to ground level.

I do have a ticket to go to the velodrome this afternoon for track bicycle racing, along with the beginning of track and field, which they call "athletics", tonight.  Then it's home to the US tomorrow afternoon.

Our lil town has been geared up for weeks.  Morgan Uceny is a favorite in the womens 1500 m track event.  All of the store fronts are painted and the Mayor is dedicating a street in her name!

Had great seats for the velodrome track cycling yesterday afternoon. The British mens pursuit team and their women's specialist won gold, to the tumultuous roar of the crown. An unbelieveabl scene.  Was at the opening night of track and field last pm.  Stadium was absolutely full, loud and participatory.  Saw some great performances.

We fly home today, to my disappointment.  This went by so fast, I feel like we just got here.  London was a perfect site for the Olympics.  The weather was cool, with only a hint of rain, and the "tube" subway system works better than anything I've ever seen.  The people were nice, understanding of those from a different culture......if only they drove on the right side of the road!  Crossing the street can get dangerous!  Best family vacation ever, IMO.
