A wonderful site, all that harvested garlic.  I don't grow any here, just onions. I don't use a lot, mostly pickling, salmon marinade, oyster Rockefeller that sort of thing. I do love onions.  :wink_2:

I've been working on a lot where there is a well beat down bear trail to a nearby camp. I've crossed that trail cutting trees on 3 strips. He's been seen by the other guy working with me, on morning drive ins to the block. The place is full of turkeys, someone I think struck one of them over the weekend, I saw it laying on the road shoulder 3 days ago. Never seen it since. Figured the bear or a coyote got it. Moose and deer out there to, lots of critters on that 100 acres including all the snow shoe hares that have chewed about every maple tree.

I am OK today but the frozen spots are now quarter size clear blisters.  I resized a Band-aid for the forehead but the two on top will have to fend for themselves.  Surely they will not get the bark knocked off up there.   :uhoh:

Been picking some raspberries off my garden patch and freezing for jam later. Not a great crop this year. I never had time this spring to clean the weeds/grass out.

70° this morning on the porch, 85° out there now. 6 hrs on the saw today. I'm working on a tough hill grade, but will be through that after 3 more tanks of gas are run through it. Tough hill , thick, and tough heat is all around tough.  ffcheesy ffcheesy

Distortion is affected by many factors. Focal length (more distortion with shorter lengths), tilt, distance in the photo from the focal point (more distortion at the corners than at the centre), Field of view (larger FOV more distortion).

Your method is basically what I understand as photo 'truthing' using a reference of known position or dimensions. Position from the subject when the photo is taken is important. You do not want the tree of reference to be at a different plain then the one your estimating. There is still distortion because the scale at the tree base is different then at the top, but using a reference reduces the effect.

think the article made a pretty good point on forest mgmt.  Instead of massive clearcuts that throws more wood on the market than mills can handle, a cut that would be comparable to mills in the area that would sustain both the forest and the lumber community.  When a mill depends on public lands for resources, it can be a boom or bust type of operation.

I took a grad level course in resource planning about 55 yrs ago.  This was before widespread computer usage.  We were using punch cards and our lab calculators had 2 memories.  We were supposed to balance the cut with the production.  We didn't have all the variables that are present today & it was a 10 wk course.  I should have paid more attention.

If the govt could provide sufficient resources on a continual basis, then they could do better planning at the industry level.  The tariffs throws a bunch of other variables into the mix.  Will the tariffs lower demand for lumber in the US?   How much room is there to raise prices (equilibrium price point)?  How long will the tariffs last?  But the key is at the available resource level.

I called my WM rep, Ross (in Maine).  He agreed with MM that the key switch is most likely the culprit.  They're shipping one out under warranty.
