Very nice forum. Just browsing the threads has me wanting to plant specific trees now.
I've been in my home for almost 3-years now and have always wondered what this tree is. It has maroon leaves and has pink flowers in the spring. This year is the first year it has produced any fruit. Actually interesting that we put in an inground pool last year and most of my trees are producing fruit/seeds for the first time since we've been in the property. Also to note though, is that the previous owner dumped alot of construction debris on the rear of the property, which we finally cleared out last year. Some of this debris was about 5 foot high piles.
Anyway, I've believe the tree in question is a Prunus cerasifera 'Newport' but am unsure. Can anyone confirm and is there anything I should do to this tree?
Random other question. I have a few, what I believe to be, Wild Cherry trees. There is no problem letting this smaller trees grow into maturity, correct?

I think you nailed it. Here they just go by the common name "purple plum". Based on the size and form yours looks like the prunus x cistena, which is a hybrid of the Prunus cerasifera. Nice ornamental and accent tree.

Thank you for the confirmation. I'm not sure if its the prunus x cistena though, as I read that only gets to be about 8' tall. The treehouse measures 16', so guessing the tree is over 20' tall.
I think you are more of an expert than me at this point so I'm just going to defer. In any case, it's a nice looking tree and looks good in your back yard. There are quite a few people on here that are much more qualified than me and someone will probably check in and confirm your conclusion.

Yes, we really like the tree. Pool company wanted to remove it and we told them absolutely not.
My daughter wants to know if she can eat the fruit, which is why I'm trying to confirm what it really is. We have a couple mulberry trees and she can't wait for those to ripen to eat those.
