just another beaver with a chainsaw &  it's never so bad that it couldn't get worse.

Fallen Timbers

We had a light dusting on Saturday but the wind and cold have been relentless ever since. I've never seen one of these bad boys resort to the bird feeder before Saturday, he's been living on it ever since, we mix bacon fat with the seed.

SwampDonkey

You know Lewee, those kind of stories just make me mad as heck. On several disasters here in the Maritimes, both flooding and snow stranded, the army said your on your own. A couple times we had to have the US army come help with flooding. And we have camp Gagetown in NB. What an embarrassment! They were stranded in a storm on  NS highway last winter about this time and they were on their own until the snow plows made their way through. But another thing that makes me just as mad is some people are as "stupid as cows", ignore warnings, go half dressed in a blizzard, no snow tires and expect to travel roads in those conditions like it's summer.

Fallen Timbers, we never had the pilleated use a feeder, but we had downy and hairy wood peckers on feeders and suet balls before.

I like the little juncos. I don't remember them at the feeders here. Mostly wood peckers, blue jays (30 at a time, mostly sacking and stashing) ::) , once in a while a cardinal (rare here), chickadees, red poles, nuthatches, veros, doves, starlings, pigeons

Yikes!!
Prayers for you and yours my friend. I'll quit complaining about a little wind ... :o

SwampDonkey

I don't live down there, but that's the scene in many areas right now. I'm on a ridge, but got some water seeping in my basement I'm pumping now and then. A pond as formed in a low spot on the lawn which only happens in heavy rain, like more than 4 inches worth in 24 hrs. It's not receding either, ground is saturated.

One old girl said she had the TV on, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes while the flooding was going on. The way she said it, she didn't care. :D :D :D

She tightened up last night, down to 19 degrees and a dusting of snow. The little pond in the yard, disappeared into the ground. Basement still as a skim of water on the floor in the low spots.

They updated the forecast for tonight, calling for -50 F.  It's -37 currently.  Think I'll throw two extra logs on the fire tonight.

I feel your pain Warbird!

Once, when I was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, we had to make a run to Fairbanks to pick up some military items.

When we got to Eielson, it was colder than -50°F.  Once it gets to -50°F a few more degrees don't matter much.  It was cold.

At 5:00 A.M. today we had -8°F.  Coldest temp so far this season.

Maine has a few cold days a few years back, got down to -30 to -40.That did slow us down some. Not normal for Maine temps.
Speaking of cold, city people who live in Maine doing the weather on the radio.Going to be cold today,20°to 30° degrees today.  ::) I could just kick them. I wonder what they will say in January when it goes into the single digits and stays there for a week? For this time of year that is just about right.Nothing a few layers of heavy clothes won't fix.

1/4" of ice.  We are shut down.  Have to get out the Yak Trax to be able to walk to the mill to feed the OWB.

Thank you Cedarman for keeping the ice, we just got some snow.

Talk about ice!  Luckily we didn't get enough to break limbs and power lines, but it is as slick as I have ever seen it. They did manage to get the state highways in pretty good shape today, but the county roads are about impossible.  I usually haul my side by side on a trailer between farms to feed cattle, but that was a no go today.  I had to take back roads driving the Trail Hand to get around.  Even it got side ways several times.  About 30 miles round trip.

When it's not raining here  ::) all we get is flurries and squalls that never add up to more than 2 inches until the next rain.  ;D
