Andy  - There's a little bit of everything here.    You know what they say about all work no play .   That applies here too, there's straight laced close to the vest types and their is crooked snakes going up a hill types.    But the answers are pretty straight forward to direct questions, if there ain't a known answer somebody will advise you where to go get the answer.   And if somebody thinks you got steered wrong somebody else will jump in with his-or-her two cents worth.   Keep on asking and keep on wondering,  I'm wondering too, sometimes you have to force the round peg in the square hole.  "This place will grow on you if you ain't carefull "

My first inclination was to take offense to this post, but then I recall how Andy was greeted with the Amos and Andy routine that he may have had no idea what was going on.

Andy, I apoligize for the quick instant message I sent to you wanting to know your reasons for this post, which seemed to question the validty of this website.

Yes there is goofing around in here, so be ready for it, the same way we are ready to give you good direction with your forestry questions.
You will find that a sense of humor goes a long way on this forum :)

Yes, there are real live foresters here, from most parts of the US.  The problem is the questions asked.  They open with a specific question and give no idea of location as to which forester should answer.  Often the Admin will refer a question by email to one of us.  Other times we have to beg and plead for more information.

The jokiing is part of the board.  You ask a serious question, you get an answer, sooner or later, depending on who read the note.

Other wise, just dont ask.

That was a good one Andy I B wonderin :D

I do believe that you will fit right in. It takes some good natured joking to keep everyone on the straight and narrow as you have already figured out. Without it and this would be a very dry board.

On the serious side, there are quite a few very smart foresters that answer questions here and of course the area your located has alot to do with who answers it.

But all in all this place if full of knowledge not only in foresters but millers, fellers and landowners.

Still haven't figured out where I fit in but in time I will  ;D

Andy:

41 years from Ron tells you the experience in this forum.

Uh, Jeff. Can you maybe come up with a silver-haired bear for Ron Scott instead of that "Just for Men" brown one he is sporting? :D

Just kidding Ron. ;)

Frank,

Thanks for the compliment.

I just realized  that I've been a forester longer than you have years in age. It's good to see that Georgia-Pacific is in good hands here though.

I'm sure that Tom and Jeff will "doctor" the "bear".
