Has anyone had any luck using sweet gum for timber framing?
@Magicman (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=10011) has sawn a lot of it this year for a customer who was building college condos.
One pith centered timber per log. I don't even try to get any side lumber.

I have sawn several hundred this year.
And?
An old man told me, a long time ago, that he built a chicken coop out of green Sweet Gum. He said in about a year, the inside was on the outside.
No personal experience.
