Looking for a forester
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:59:51 AM »
A friend of mine has some property in the southern part of WNY and is looking for a forester to inventory and help sell. I used the search and nothing came up. I am told it is a lot of spruce over 24"  and some hardwood but haven't been there to see it.  Can anyone point me in a direction to help him.

Should be a New York State forestry agency of some sort, or, try the reference page at Society of American Foresters, or Consulting Foresters of American, here is their search web site:

Some New York State forestry resources:

New York's "Master Forest Owner" volunteer program: www.cornellMFO.info
NY Forest Owners Association: www.nyfoa.org

Both have some great folks involved, and would probably have recommendations for good foresters active in your area.

  • Good thing that foresters are a different breed.

Try contacting Billy Morris over in the Bath area. He's a very knowledgable forester ansd is the one we use when I'm not there to take care of our NY property.

Thanks fellas, any idea what spruce goes for a Mbf? If he was a little closer I'd think about buying some. I could use the dimensional, but hauling that far doesn't make it worth it especially when I usually get paid to bring logs home. I would be nice to have clean logs though with little risk of tramp metal.
