Ok, I just experimented and figured out how to post a picture from my gallery to a post.  I uploaded the picture to my gallery as normal.  I'm using my PC.  Go to the picture you want in my gallery.  Scroll down to the link labeled BBcode (normal) and copy that link.

Then go and paste that link in your post where you want it and the picture will immediately appear in the post you're writing.  To be clear, you'll need to have two tabs/windows open, one with the post you're writing, and one with my gallery to copy the link from.

Clearly the add picture to post button is no longer in my gallery like it used to be.  Also there is no longer the add picture to post button at the bottom of the post you're writing.  There is an icon at the top of the post you're writing to add a picture.  I think Jeff said that if you upload that way, the picture will not be saved in my gallery.  I tried uploading with that once and it says my file size was too big.  This was a pic off my iphone, so I suspect that I'd always have to resize a photo off my iphone for this to work.  I also noticed, if I'm not mistaken, that the photo has to be a jpeg.  I have to be careful because sometimes when you just try to copy a pic from the web or use my snip program, it can save as another file type like a PNG or something else if you don't check or set the file type to jpeg or jpg.  I think it's going to be easier just to upload to my gallery and go through the copy and paste procedure above.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

We had never allowed png as our image manipulater did not work with png
Phone photos are usually many many times bigger than a web photo needs to be, and we will not be using server resources any longer to convert such huge file sizes.

I had things working so so for a few days and have been unable to upload a pic in about a week. Jpg, one image at a time, normal procedure. It goes as normal the entire time, the counter bar thingy shows its pretty much complete and then boop, red message internal server error.  Every single time. I dont know what else to do.

Also my gallery is full of stuff that isnt mine. Images of things that look like stainless steel cylinder liners. Tons of them.

Any one else having these issues?

Ill check that out tomorrow mike. Im mentioning Jeremy to remember to look see  whats missing. We are working off the files we paid to have moved. I went back and made good back up hopefully we can get rid of the pipes. You need to reduce your photo size before upload some @Nobohdy

I'm also the proud owner of a nice metal cylinder picture. I wonder if it was a "place holder"  left over from the gallery upgrade? Not so much a "bug" as an "undocumented feature".  Either way, not a priority to fix as it's not breaking anything else.

I did have a look at Lil's new phone. Default pictures are 12 Mp, 4,000 pixels wide, and 5 or 6 mb in size. That means they wont upload now. Not sure what the "wide angle" 200mp sensor puts out, but I doubt it's smaller.

A new tutorial, with the file sizes and how to fix that probably needs to be on the to do list, even it's not an immediate priority.

Thanks jeff.  Cropping before upload will reduce the pixels right?

So the cylinders arent placeholders for an actual photo ive uploaded?  I didnt wanna delete them only to find out that i break a bunch of links that may have been working.

You dont need to crop, you need to reduce the file size If your pics are 1200 pixles wide, that is plenty to look realy good here. Some of you start out with photos that are 4 or 5 or 6,000 Pixles. Huge. When I was allowing the forum server to try and alter the size that much, it can cause performance issues, as photo manipulation on the fly is a resource intensive operation.

It would be helpful, if you guys know what phtos are missing by the name, to round a copy up. The only photos that are missing, are that last couple days before we shut the server down to move as the host, once again, messed up, (not what I wanted to say) the last backup. I still may have them, but finding them is another thing.

Cropping got them from like 7mb to under 2 and it worked, thanks!

For your phone it is a simple matter to get an Image Resize app.  After resizing I have both the original and the resized picture on my phone and I can use or delete either.

I have been using one for years.  Before I even text a picture to someone, I resize it and the message goes much faster.

Uploading pictures onto a forum is a breeze.

The metal cylinders must be the "default" forum picture when you have created an album in your gallery, but haven't uploaded any pictures into that album. I have some of those. Other albums I have pictures in, have one of that album's pictures as the thumbnail.

Cropping is basically like cutting out a smaller section of the picture, and throwing away the rest. It may be the right thing to if say you have a small image that you want, like a deer in a field. You chop out most of the grass,  and have a smaller image of just the deer.

Resizing is where you take the whole image, and shrink it all in size. I take images down to about 1,000 pixels (dots) wide, and that gives a good screen size, and generally gets the image down to a couple of hundred Kb.

There is another setting called "compression". When you save a jpg image, you can adjust how much detail you are willing to lose when it's displayed again. May be under "Image quality" in some programs. You can increase the compression, and that makes the file smaller, but also more "fuzzy", because it's lost some of the details. If you have this setting, you sort of have to play around and see what setting it needs to be. Too much compression and the image looks like mud, not enough and the image is bigger than it needs to be.

But those are the 3 basic photo editing tasks you might need to tidy up a picture for any web page, often you will want all three to get the best image / smallest image.

If you want to dig deeper there is contrast / colour balance and now AI editing.

This is a (shrunk ) image that Lil took the other day, the original is ~8,000 pix wide, WAY too big.

mj mt0.jpg

Then using the phone photo editing tools, crop out the shed on the right, some of the bushes and sky, and then get the phone AI to remove the dead tree and shed on the left and the last corner of the right shed. (and make up some detail to go in their place). Can you see where the dead tree was? I can't.

Is the New Album function on the Gallery working yet?

I identified that this was not working several months ago, tested it again a couple weeks later and it still did not work and was told to leave it alone so I have and will not try it again till I get an all clear. When I tried to create a new album in the gallery it just sat there and spun and never completed building one.
