i was trying to help out a stuck neighbor and managed to destroy my right rear planetary, was wondering if there was other equipment that used the same planetaries as the clark 662 skidder. thanks

not sure on the 662, never seen one. 664 stuff is in alot of equipment.

The only other machine that uses the 17,600 axle P/N 192546 that I can find is 664B skidder standard axle not the heavy duty optional 17,800 axle. There should be a tag with P/N on it otherwise you would have to pull the planetary cover and check the P/N on the sun gear, should be P/N 106058, if so the rest of the planetary should be correct. No guaranty on machine of that age that could have had changes done.

seabee do they look different? if so every one i ever saw must had the HD.

oldseabee

I guess if you had them side by side you might see the difference, but just look at a machine it would be hard to see the difference. I did look at 55b loader that uses the 17,600 axle but the ratios are different.

this most likely means nothing but we bought a new 664 clark back in 1981 I think  , it took out 5 planetarys , in a very short period of time , Clark would not warranty any of the parts . We told Clark come get it and give us a new one and then Clark told us that the machine came with the wrong axles in it , they were for some fork lift truck or something like that , was just wondering if those would fix in your machine . Clark did come good for the rearends and we got a new 664

thanks for all of the information, i am going to look at a 664 that is being parted out hope that it has the same planetaries
oldseabee you seem too know a lot about these clark skidders is there any weak points i should watch for on this 662
thank you

662 was a pretty solid machine, has the 28,000 trans that the early 667 and 668 skidders used, main thing is to keep it well greased, the early units had unsealed spherical bearings in the hinge and cradle, don't let them get worn enough to break up and destroy the bores in the parent metal, that can get very costly. the single steer cylinder gives uneven steering power comparing left to right. it will pull more then it needs to so  try not to overload it and cut down on the life of the planetaries. Get a good set of ear plugs. Do you have the Clark winch or the Gearmatic? Gearmatic requires more maintainence.

The front axle is 13,500 series back is 17,600 series, same overall ratio but smaller parts.

thanks for the info oldseabee, mine has the clark winch, the 664 had the same planetaries was able to get a complete one for $500 about a 1/4 the cost of a new one from our local parts supplier. now it is time to put up some firewood
