Title: A Christmas Auction for the Forestry Forum!
Post by: Paschale on December 11, 2005, 10:11:12 PM
It's time for a little auction to help support the Forestry Forum.  This isn't THE auction, but a bit of an appetizer for the real deal on the other side of the Holidays...and it's seasonal!  What's up for auction is a Christmas CD by the Brass Band of Battle Creek.  The proceeds will go to the Forestry Forum.  Christmas music and brass are a perfect combination (if I do say so myself!).  I'm on the CD, which is why I thought I'd put it up for auction, with Jeff's approval.

This is my first Ebay auction, and I tried to set up two items, but it wouldn't let me do it since I'm a newbie.  So I made two different auctions, they can be found at these two links:

Auction One (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4807711136&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1)

Auction Two (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4807711424&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1)

Auction Three (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4809542840)

The auction will end next Sunday, so I'll be able to send it out on Monday, and I'll deposit the proceeds into Jeff's Paypal Donation box here on the forum.

Well, I'll be, y'all are going to it!   8)  I think this bodes well for our idea of a full fledged auction.   :)  At the rate you guys were bidding...I shoulda put about five of those things up there.  Things have quieted down...and I bet they'll stay quiet until next weekend.   ;)

Oh, and UNCLEBUCK, your check is good anytime.  I put that little comment in the Ebay listing about personal checks just in case nobody on the forum was interested, and somebody I didn't know bid on it and won.  Looks like the winner's definitely gonna be somebody from the FF...it just remains to be seen who!   ;D

Thanks for bidding guys...it's for a good cause!   8)

Oh...btw...you can check the music out here:

Wow!   Y'all make good music.  :)

Scott Thornburg's "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms"
almost had me in tears.  What a clear, mellow, deliberate and 'on note" Cornet he plays.

Wow!   Y'all make good music.  :)

Scott Thornburg's "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms"
almost had me in tears.  What a clear, mellow, deliberate and 'on note" Cornet he plays.

Thanks Tom.   :)  Scott's a good friend of mine--he's one of the professors of trumpet at Western Michigan University and I play with him in the faculty brass quintet there.  I'll pass on those kind words to him!

I have a short, little solo moment, FWIW, on a tune from the album "Sing, Sing, Sing."  It's on the tune "The Sweet Shepherdess."  If you listen to it, and hear the first strain, it starts out with euphoniums, and then the trumpet comes in.  There's a little pause at the end of the strain.  The tune comes back in with a solo trombone--that's me!   ;D

This'll be fun to tell my friends what's been going on with this--they won't believe me!   :D This has been fun watching this go, and you bet, I'll be sure to autograph this for the winning bidder. (I'm not sure if that will improve the value or not  ::)).  At these prices, that's the least I can do--really, I should hand deliver the CD and play a couple of Christmas Carols in person!   :D

Wish I could have the whole group sign the CD's--I'm not in the band anymore, unfortunately.  I was in the group for about ten years or so, and recorded all of those CD's with them except the second LIVE CD, and a few of the tunes on the first LIVE CD.  My job with the symphony is much busier now, and it's harder to get out to do things like this.  But it was fun while it lasted, and it's fun having those CD's as memories.

Well, at the rate this auction's been going, I decided I better add the third CD I picked up last weekend into the mix.   8)

So, tomorrow night, at around 10:00, I'll add a three day auction on that one, which means it will end at basically the same time as the other two auctions.   Get ready for the gavel to drop! smiley_smash

I think it'll be fun watching how this third one goes.  Watching the bids is half the fun!  Or maybe all the fun!   ;D

Thanks for bidding guys...like I say, it's for a good cause!

hey guys...

So I been thinking...maybe what I SHOULD'VE done, is mentioned that I had the third CD.  I originally bought that third one so I'd have one around the house, since all of mine I gave away already.  But...seeing how the auction was going, I thought it might be fun to add a third one--whatcha all think?  Is it a good idea, or should we just keep it as it is?   ???

If y'all think it's just fine, I won't add that third one, but if ya think it'd be a good idea, well I'll gladly pop it in the mix.  I don't wanna aggravate any of you guys who have been so generous enough to bid on this CD.   :-\

Whadya think--ya can IM if ya want.

Auction Three (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4809542840)

So who's deernut and Sawyer650 anyway?   ???  Come out, come out, wherever you are!   ;D
Of course sawyer650 could be someone who is not a Forestry Forum member and just likes good Christmas music. ;)

Hey guys,

The CD's are on their way!   8)

I'm off to a party here in a few minutes, so I don't have time to send the three of you (Cktate, Beenthere and  ??? ) your tracking numbers...but I'll send 'em on out later tonight, or first thing tomorrow morning.  They should get to ya before Christmas!

You missed a good joke.  You should have followed Peterson's lead when Trevor suggested to Getoverit that he would have his saw by Easter.  :D :D

I sure hope Paschale did not mix up those CDs. It would be just tragic if cktate got one of the cheap ones. Since we all have heard that we get what we pay for, ck got the best cd. ;D

Puh-skolly
Recieved the CD already, and it is great.  Worth every penney  ;D  (and autographed too!)

Now, I need to prowl back into the archives to find out which song has your solo part, and then see if I can hear any wrong notes (as if I could tell  :) ).
Thanks very much for your efforts.

There is a FedEx truck coming up my 1 mile long drive. Wonder what they have for me. Be back in a minute.  It is a small cardboard box. Wonder what it could be. Now I know , it is a CD. Wonder who would send me a CD?  It is from Grand Rapids Mi.  It is from Paschale. 8)
I am listing to it now. That is the best CD I have ever bought. It is worth twice what I paid for it. ;D

I spoke too soon and  was going by my 10 second memory.  ::) I was listening to the CD and didn't want to stop it to look at the signature.  It is signed  Paschale and some one named Daniel.

Some guy named Daniel grabbed the pen outta my hand, and insisted on signing the CD.   ::)

Glad ya got the CD.   ;D  Now I just need to figure out how to transfer your funds from my Paypal account to Jeff's.  Paypal's not being too cooperative.   ::)

Paschale, I noticed tonight that you had not claimed the money from paypal. :o If it stays there too long, I just might spend it on another auction. ;D

Well, I finally got my Paypal account straightened away, and sent Jeff the total of the donations from our first auction.  Things went well, and thanks to Pigman, Beenthere and CKtate, we raised well over $250!  Thanks guys for doing your part to help keep the Forum going.

It looks like our second auction is going well now too, and I hope this becomes a regular part of the fun on the forum, as well as helping to keep the lights on.  If you have some ideas of things you'd like to auction off to help support the forum, drop Jeff a note and we'll have tons of fun with your item too!

Thanks to everyone who bid!
