what is stronger ironwood or elm rounds in the 5-6in diameter  and 8-10ft long   sorry said the wrong name the first time

disclaimer....I'm actually torn between both and up the anty with dogwood.

If frozen I bet elm would bow more than ironwood and ironwood busts when frozen and you smash a tree into them.

Ironwood, if you are talking about Ostrya virginiana, is definitely denser and harder than elm.

Beech is my favorite for forwarder stakes but ironwood is easier to find.  Sugar maple works just as well.  They all get broke.
