what is stronger ironwood or elm rounds in the 5-6in diameter and 8-10ft long sorry said the wrong name the first time
I place my bet on iron wood. :)
disclaimer....I'm actually torn between both and up the anty with dogwood.
If frozen I bet elm would bow more than ironwood and ironwood busts when frozen and you smash a tree into them.
Ironwood, if you are talking about Ostrya virginiana, is definitely denser and harder than elm.
Is shock resistance a factor, or just straight bearing strength? ??? ??? ???
Hemlock....
What are you going to do with them. Could make a difference.
using them for steakes on forwarder log truck
Ironwood would be stronger for stakes I think.
Beech is my favorite for forwarder stakes but ironwood is easier to find. Sugar maple works just as well. They all get broke.
